Spoiler alert! If you don’t want to know the winners of The Amazing Race, stop reading now!
After traveling to 10 countries on five continents and more than 30,000 miles, the hockey brothers, Bates and Anthony Battaglia, won the $1 million prize. Newlyweds Max and Katie came in second. Roller Derby moms Mona and Beth took third. And country singers Caroline and Jennifer finished fourth.
The country singers were ultimately done in by dirty, claustrophobic bog snorkeling in Ireland. The Roller Derby moms, meanwhile, struggled to serve a five-course meal in the correct order to “First Class passengers” at the shipyard where the Titanic was built, as did the hockey brothers, who didn’t know what color Chartreuse was on their dessert plates. But those two teams advanced to the final leg behind the newlyweds, who lost their lead back in Washington, D.C., where the teams had to play spies and exchange briefcases with a man in black who responded to their secret phrase. With luck on his side, Bates found his contact before Max, and the hockey brothers never looked back. The Roller Derby moms essentially lost the race at Nationals Park, where it took Beth, wearing a giant baseball mascot costume, 17 attempts to catch a fly ball from Mona, who zip-lined high above her.
In the end, one member of each team had to jump in a giant ball pit, find the 10 countries they’d visited outlined on 10 different balls, toss them out to his or her teammate, and then place the balls in the order countries were visited. How no one made a bazinga! joke, we will never know.
