Is it possible that zombies can be a force for good? Apparently so. Last year, Walking Dead writer Robert Kirkman’s comic imprint Skybound and the Hero Initiative charity gave over 100 blank Walking Dead #100 covers to assorted comic-industry notables for them to sketch their own undead-oriented illustrations. Today it was announced that the covers will be on display together at a free, one-night-only, Hero Initiative-benefiting show and auction held at L.A.’s GUSFORD gallery on Friday, May 31.
Four of the covers will be auctioned off during the soiree — two on eBay and another pair on-site — including one that will be created in the course of the evening by artist Todd Nauck (Invincible Universe). Nauck will be joined at the event by fellow sketch-cover contributors Sina Grace and Jason Reeves. The remainder of the covers will be auctioned off via eBay beginning June 4.
The Hero Initiative is a non-profit dedicated to providing medical aid and financial support to comic-book artists in need.
You can see regular Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard’s (predictably gruesome) sketch and an already completed cover by Todd Nauck below.
