Your new Presidents' Day plan: watch the Criterion Collection on Hulu for free

HULU (2)Great news for cinephiles and wannabe cinephiles alike: From now until Feb. 18, every single one of the Criterion Collection’s streaming titles on Hulu is available to watch whether you’ve got a Hulu Plus account or not.

To clarify, this doesn’t mean that Criterion’s entire collection of some 910 films is streaming for free. But even if only a portion of that selection is available on Hulu, there are still tons of high-quality films to choose from — meaning that it’s fairly daunting even to figure out where to start. Thankfully, Criterion itself has a suggestion:

Of course, if Jean-Luc Godard isn’t your bag, Criterion also has plenty of selections from other noted auteurs — including Akira Kurosawa (watch Rashomon to finally see what every sitcom has parodied at some point), Federico Fellini (8 1/2 and La Dolce Vida aren’t on there, but La Strada is), Ingmar Bergman (The Seventh Seal will prepare you for your next demonic chess game), Charlie Chaplin (City Lights makes The Artist look like Silent Movie), Fritz Lang (one letter: M), and Fran├žois Truffaut (Jules and Jim would be a great follow-up to Breathless). There’s a host of slightly more contemporary films like Hoop Dreams and classic trash like The Blob on there as well.

Also, Grey Gardens. Also, Eraserhead. Also, we’re going to be so freakin’ cultured by Monday.
