'Vanity Fair' Hollywood issue: Emma Stone gets in bed with Ben Affleck and Bradley Cooper

Vanity-Fair-Hollywood-issue

As in years past, the cover of Vanity Fair‘s annual Hollywood issue features a couple of beautiful starlets (Emma Stone and Olivia Wilde, who appears as a Josephine Baker-esque dancer in the expanded version of the photo spread) wearing eye-catching outfits.

But this time, the cover also includes a touch of humor in the form of Ben Affleck and Bradley Cooper, both of whom are wearing goofy animal costumes; Affleck’s a bear, while Cooper is a gorilla. (You can see the head of the Silver Linings Playbook star’s costume in the expanded cover.) Les Mis‘s dreamy Eddie Redmayne and Beasts of the Southern Wild‘s impish Quvenzhan√© Wallis made it into the spread as well, albeit beyond the fold. Though Wallis’s photo is adorable as always, its placement may ruffle some feathers; last year, critics took VF to task for relegating women of color to the inside of its foldout cover, and this year, it seems to have done the same thing. (And this isn’t the first time that’s happened, either.)

But possible controversy aside, the whole historical Hollywood aesthetic is pretty neat — and the magazine’s description of photographer Bruce Weber’s shots featuring Tom Hanks and Halle Berry, Amy Adams and Jonah Hill, and Selena Gomez and Alan Arkin (wait, what?), among other stars, make me eager to read the issue, which hits stands nationwide Feb. 5. What do you think of the cover?
