High school angst — it’s universal.
And when it comes complete with a pop-rock score, it just might be irresistible. That’s the hope, at least, behind a new production of the musical Bare, which will debut for an open-ended production Off Broadway this month.
Similar to musicals that pushed boundaries and developed cult followings such as Spring Awakening and Rent, Bare tells a story of a group of high schoolers dealing with sexuality and religion at a co-ed Catholic boarding school.
The original production opened in Los Angeles in 2000, and also had a New York City run in 2004. With its catchy score, the show has also been a mainstay among colleges and cabarets.
Below, you can exclusively listen to three songs from Bare. In addition to “Are You There” and “Role of a Lifetime,” check out a brand-new song for this production: “A Million Miles from Heaven.”
Tickets to Bare, playing at New World Stages, are available on the show's website.
