The last time Lindsay Lohan stopped by The Tonight Show, Jay Leno steered the beleaguered actress through a surprisingly frank conversation about her legal woes, her jail time, and what she’s learned from her rocky post-Mean Girls years. “I made a lot of poor decisions in the past,” she told Leno. “And I’m dealing with the consequences of those decisions. So, yeah, there were times when I was concerned [about getting work], but I’m a fighter. And I know I have to work to gain the respect back. And I’m willing to do the work that I have to do to follow through with being an actress.”
Alas, Lohan’s most recent Tonight Show interview wasn’t nearly as candid — though between bouts of nervous hair-playing, she did briefly address canceling on Barbara Walters and the news that she apparently has a half-sister. Of the former, Lindsay said vaguely that “the timing wasn’t right” for a probing 20/20 sitdown; of the latter, she drily commented, “I guess I could give her one word of advice: Good luck with my dad.”
Otherwise, Leno stuck firmly with safe material, prodding Lohan to comment on fake tabloid covers and showing a clip from a Jello commercial she recorded with Bill Cosby when she was around 10 years old. (Man, watching Young Lindsay these days is still such a bummer.) He also spent a large portion of the interview asking his guest about Liz & Dick, her latest project — which Lindsay seemed much more willing to discuss than her personal life. Watch all the way through Part 2 of the interview below to see a new clip from the film, which features Lohan-as-Liz hissing this immortal line at Grant-Bowler-as-Dick: “Why don’t you go back to your beloved thee-ayter, you big THESBIAN.”
Leno missed a big opportunity to have Lohan discuss politics with his other guest, Meet the Press moderator David Gregory — but otherwise, the interview went very smoothly (if a little boring-ly). Here’s hoping Lindsay can continue to keep it together… even after she reads the reviews for Liz & Dick.
