Bet this isn’t the kind of “revolution” Donald Trump envisioned on election night. Over 470,000 people have signed an online petition that urges Macy’s to sever ties with longtime spokesman Donald Trump — a figure who “engages in especially unpleasant, nasty and despicable behavior” that doesn’t “reflect the ‘magic of Macy’s.'” UPDATE: A spokeswoman for Macy’s has issued a statement in response to the petition; scroll down to read it.
According to the petition, Trump’s crimes against good taste are legion. Among other things, he has:
– Long engaged in sexist behavior. Trump has a long record of personally attacking women he disagrees [with] by calling them “unattractive,” ugly or fat. He once sent a target a personal note telling her that she has the “face of a dog.”
– Hypocritically complained about jobs being shipped overseas to China, despite the fact that almost his entire clothing line sold at Macy’s is made in China and other Asian nations.
– Use his public platform to deny the reality of climate change. Following Hurricane Sandy, Trump publicly declared: “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.”
– Perpetuated the racially charged birther conspiracy, repeatedly arguing that President Obama has been lying and was not born in the United States.
And so on.
The petition is growing longer every minute; it’s gained over 2,000 signatures since I began writing this post. Trump might want to watch out — the Dump Trump campaign was launched by Angelo Carusone, an online strategist whose previous campaign against Glenn Beck resulted in scores of advertisers agreeing to stop running ads during the ex-Fox News host’s old show. In other words: This could be yuuuuge.
