With just eight days to go until Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, Google is trying to help you focus on another vampire – a cooler and scarier and not even a little bit involved-in-an-inane-love-triangle one – in the form of its latest homepage Doodle.
In honor of Bram Stoker’s 165th birthday, the creator of Dracula (published in 1897) is commemorated with a spooky – although sadly sound-free – homepage tribute. The doodle features the bloodsucker himself, as well as terrified villagers. I especially enjoy the sketch I’m dubbing “Steve Newlin” holding garlic leaves and a wooden stake. When you click anywhere on the picture, you’re taken to the search results for “Bram Stoker books,” with images of all of his works on a carousel at the top of the page.
Since Stoker’s Dracula, vampires have remained constant in popular culture – from Gary Oldman to Anne Rice to a certain sparkly one that has divided a nation.
Sorry, Jacob fans. No word on when werewolves are getting their moment of search engine glory.
