Mary Murphy is blogging for EW.com this season! Catch up with her and her thoughts on the most recent episodes of So You Think You Can Dance.

I’m in such awe when these dancers go outside their style most weeks, but last night they had to do five dance numbers that put them out on the edge.  I heard there were quite a lot of tears backstage before the show started, as last night was the show that determined who was going to be America’s favorite dancers – so the pressure was on!

I felt not only did they cope but we had some more extraordinary moments.  I think all the dancers had their moments of sunshine so I’m going to start with the first contemporary piece, choreographed by Sonja Tayeh starring Tiffany and all-star Will.  This was an amazing demonstration of bodies moving fabulously to music.  Tiffany must’ve been over the moon to draw Will, one of the strongest all-stars in the history of SYTYCD.  Tiffany is the epitome of the perfect dance partner; I love the chemistry and the athleticism of these two.  I felt Sonja had the freedom to do anything she wanted with the two of them, which is a luxury on this show.

Next, the classical ballet piece choreographed by Marat Daukeyev starring Eliana and Chehon was certainly “a moment.”  Nigel and I always hoped for such a moment but it took nine seasons for it to happen.  They looked absolutely stunning, confident, and back at home on the stage in their style.  Eliana with her beautiful legs created an amazing line and control.  And Chehon, the perfect partner, was proud and brilliant as he maneuvered Eliana all over that floor.  It was simply breathtaking.

Another great moment for Chehon, who seemed to have come on strong the last few weeks, was the contemporary choreographed by Stacey Tookey starring him and all-star Allison. Allison is one of the most special dancers this show has ever seen – it is such a treat to watch her dance.  She always seems to elevate the performance of whoever she is dancing with.  Chehon seemed to have so much freedom in his body with this piece.  His back was loose and elastic, with his beautiful technique underneath.

Then came animation, choreographed by Christopher Scott starring Cyrus and Twitch.  What a way to end the season, with those two smashing through glass doors – such a memorable moment!  The popping was insane and the musicality by Christopher was genius.  They certainly stole the show tonight.

It’s hard to believe we’re crowning two champions next Tuesday night.  I have no idea which way it’s going to go, but I’d like to say I admire this top four – it has been a tremendous season.  This performance finale was a great pleasure to watch.

Good luck to the magical four of season nine!

My dress tonight was by Marchesa and jewelry by Zorab – glitter Hot Tamale Train!

Stepping off for now…
