Although Summer is almost over, it  doesn’t mean you won’t have anything to look forward to come fall. September not only brings us the beginning of the new TV season, but an onslaught of Oscar contenders in theaters — including The Master, starring Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix. What other pop culture delights can you indulge in this week? See below to find out.

SUNDAY, Sept. 9

Wallander, PBS, 9 p.m.

Kenneth Branagh stars as the troubled Swedish detective Kurt Wallander. In Wallander: An Event in Autumn, the titular cop moves into a house with his girlfriend, but soon finds a dead body on the property. Watch it if you miss Sherlock, like solving mysteries or love Branagh.

MONDAY, Sept. 10

U.S Open Men’s Finals, CBS, 4 p.m.

Fresh off his Olympic gold medal, British tennis star Andy Murray will try to win his first Grand Slam title, facing Novak Djokovic in the men’s U.S Open finals, which were moved back a day due to weather.

TUESDAY, Sept. 11

Go On and The New Normal, NBC, 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Matthew Perry returns to television in Go On as a sports radio host who agrees to go to group therapy after his wife dies. Following that premiere, The New Normal — Ryan Murphy’s latest work — hits the airwaves.

WEDNESDAY, Sept. 12

The Voice and The X Factor go head-to-head on NBC and FOX, respectively

When The Voice‘s three-day premiere ends on Wednesday, The X Factor begins its sophomore season. With this scheduling, the night becomes a battle between ’90s pop starlets Christina Aguilera, a Voice judge, and Britney Spears, who makes her debut on The X Factor. Who will America choose?

THURSDAY, Sept. 13

Glee, FOX, 9 p.m.

Gleeks, rejoice! The fourth season of Murphy’s musical show airs on its new night and time. With the gang spread out all over the country, we’re dying to know what’s next for our favorite McKinley grads, students and teachers. And of course, we want to hear all the new songs, too.

FRIDAY, Sept. 14

The Master debuts in theaters

Paul Thomas Anderson’s first film since There Will Be Blood brings Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams together in a movie that is most definitely not about Scientology. But it is one of the most highly anticipated movies of the award season.

SATURDAY, Sept. 15

Ohio State vs. California, ABC, 12 p.m.

It’s fall — the perfect time to watch college football. If the OSU-Cal game isn’t right for you, ESPN’s channels all feature other match-ups.

SUNDAY, Sept. 16

Boardwalk Empire, HBO, 9 p.m.

The third season of HBO’s acclaimed drama premieres tonight with an episode called “Resolution.” Hopefully that means we’ll get some after the shocking death of Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt).
