Mary Murphy is blogging for EW.com this season! Catch up with her and her thoughts on the most recent episodes of So You Think You Can Dance.

My favorite guest judge kept me in stitches all night but make no mistake he’s truly in love with all the dancers and the show. Starting the show off with a bang was a hip-hop number choreographed by Luther Brown. Luther was a judge and choreographer on the Canadian version of SYTYCD and currently works with Nikki Minaj. It was great to have Luther on the show because I miss my Canadian family and sitting next to Luther on the panel.

Now onto Whitney, who brought the “ratchet and the buck” all in one number. Then again, who can go wrong while dancing with Twitch, one of the show’s favorite dancers. Another highlight for me was Sonya Taheh’s contemporary piece starring Cole and all-star Allison Holker. Allison had a personal best in my opinion and Cole certainly kept up with her. I was upset I didn’t mention how brilliant they were tonight when I went through the press line. I hope I get to see this number again in the finale.

Also I would like to apologize to Cole. I understand he had a severe injury to a ligament in his ankle when he bravely had to dance the cha-cha last week which had fast footwork and required a lot of foot pressure. Now I feel bad I didn’t put him on the Hot Tamale Train.

I’m also upset, now that I went there, that I didn’t mention Ryan DiLello dancing with Eliana. Sorry Ryan! It was great having you back on the show and you did an amazing job. Another great piece was choreographed by Miriam and Leonardo starring Chehon and Anya. Miriam and Leonardo, known for their fast and furious Argentine tango style, changed it up a bit tonight with a brooding, sultry tango that brought us to our feet by the end. Chehon, who had an extraordinary night, gave an emotional and heartfelt solo with his mother in the audience. It only got better when he delivered his best performance on the show with this incredible tango. I couldn’t help but think how lucky I was to witness a moment in a dancer’s life who in a small way was repaying a parent for helping them realize their dreams.

The final highlight tonight was Mandy Moore’s “Power of Love” contemporary starring Tiffany and all-star Ade. This number had us standing in no time flat. Tiffany gave us her best performance to date. She was elegant, powerful and floating across the dance floor. She always seems to put a smile on my face. I think I underestimated her at first, but she now sits at the doorstep of making it into the top four.

Leaving us tonight are two great dancers – Will and Lindsay. What can I say other than I love them both, but they were slightly edged out by Whitney and Cole. But don’t fret, we will see them shortly in the finale and on tour.

Once again I was wearing jewelry by Zorab and my black tuxedo dress was by Black Halo.

Stepping off for now…

Mary
