In Good Morning, Vietnam, Robin Williams was nominated for an Oscar for playing a military-radio DJ who often imitated and ridiculed his superiors and America’s political leaders. On one occasion, he pretended to be former President Eisenhower, a characterization that made Ike sound a little like Elmer Fudd.
But in The Butler, the upcoming film from Lee Daniels about Eugene Allen, the late White House butler who served eight presidents, the funnyman is playing the popular WWII general-turned-pol for real. Forest Whitaker is set to star as Allen, with Oprah Winfrey playing his wife. John Cusack (as Richard Nixon), Jane Fonda (as Nancy Reagan), Alan Rickman (as Ronald Reagan), Nelsan Ellis (as Martin Muther King, Jr.), James Marsden and Minka Kelly (as John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy) also appear.
