Newsweek's controversial cover: 'Hit The Road, Barack.'

It’s not quite Time’s “attachment parenting” cover story, but Newsweek is certainly generating some headlines of its own this week with a story on President Obama with a cover that reads:  “Hit the Road, Barack. Why We Need a New President.”

Written by Niall Ferguson, the article delves into what Ferguson says are broken campaign promises. The viral-y piece has had over 14,000 “Likes” on Facebook so far.

This certainly isn’t the first time Newsweek has had a controversial cover. Earlier this year, they dubbed Obama “The First Gay President” in a coverline. They did an issue straight out of the sixties for the return of Mad Men, and they also generated comments when they did a photoshopped cover of Princess Diana and Kate Middleton.

When asked by EW for comment regarding the extremely partisan cover, (which commenters on the left have said is full of errors) a spokesperson sent back an email with a link to a video, where Newsweek’s executive editor, Justine Rosenthal, said they wanted to give readers a taste of both sides of the aisle, and clarified, “these are arguments; they aren’t just reported pieces.”
