will say about…the Olympics.”
(Not so) shockingly, the duo didn’t talk about the London Games, but the second Pattinson came out, Stewart dove right in to Awkwardville. After a purposely long pause, Stewart asked, “What have you been up to?” and handed Pattinson some ice cream. Stewart then announced, “We’re just a couple of gals talking….tell me everything!”
A nervous-looking Pattinson didn’t really answer the question, but after being asked again if he was alright, dove into a bit where he shared that he didn’t have a publicist, and that was the real issue. “My biggest problem in my life is that I’m cheap. I didn’t hire a publicist. Every awkward interview, normally actors get these things scripted… I’m going to hire a publicist,” he said with a laugh. Watch the clip below.
Stewart went easy on the actor, and continued talking over Pattinson’s lack of answers, finally saying, “The last time I had a bad break-up, Ben & Jerry’s got me through some of the tougher times….[mimicking a girl's voice] ‘Boy you are better off, kick her to the curb,’” Stewart said to audience cheers.
After showing some footage of the huge crowds that had lined up outside the studio and talking about Cosmopolis for a few minutes, Stewart asked Pattinson if there was anything else he wanted to say. Pattinson got serious and said, “If there are any Twilight fans tuned it… I genuinely want to make Cosmopolis have a higher opening weekend than Dark Knight. It’s in six cinemas, so it’s going to be a challenge.”
For the guy who just got through his first public appearance after an earth-shattering scandal announcement that rocked us all, box-office challenges are going to be a piece of cake.
