U.S. Olympians Gabby Douglas and Missy Franklin have found some famous fans in Nina Dobrev and Justin Bieber, celebs that they’re also each fans of, respectively. As the London Olympics wraps up its final week, another athlete-entertainer connection was made, this time with Scandal‘s Kerry Washington.
Right after placing second in the 200 meter sprint on Tuesday (qualifying for the final race), Los Angeles-based athlete Allyson Felix told an NBC broadcaster that during the London games, she’s spent some time watching Scandal in her hotel room.
When Washington, star of the ABC show, heard about the shout-out, she started a Twitter conversation with the runner, thanking her and wishing her luck on her Wednesday race.
Felix also got some Twitter love from other Scandal stars Darby Stanchfield, Joshua Malina, Columbus Short and Katie Lowes, as well as Magic Johnson and Michelle Obama via the official White House Twitter account.
“I’m hoping she’ll come visit set because she trains at USC,” Washington told EW Thursday at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association annual luncheon.
As if an invite to visit the Scandal set from the show’s star herself wasn’t prize enough for Felix’s strong performance at the Olympics, she went on to win the gold medal in the 200 meters.
“We had this crazy 17-hour shoot day yesterday, so I feel like her shout-out and her winning the gold really got us through the day,” Washington said.
