Which on-screen couples do you want to get together in real life?

Despite what gossip site Celeb Dirty Laundry writes, recently single Gillian Anderson and her ex-X-Files costar David Duchovny are probably not living together. Sure, Anderson was cagey when asked by Britain’s Sunday Times Magazine if she was dating anyone new — but that doesn’t mean we should trust the conveniently anonymous source who says she and Mulder are knocking boots.

But even if there’s no credence to this rumor, reading it still gave EW’s staffers pangs of hope. In a post-KStew-RPattz world, we may never believe in love again — or at least love between co-stars. And if Anderson and Duchovny did get together, their partnership would be the culmination of years of fervent X-Phile yearning (and countless sweaty fanfics).

Mulder and Scully aren’t the only on-screen couple we’d love to see as IRL partners.  Every time I watch Damon Wayans Jr. and Eliza Coupe’s characters act dementedly adorable together on Happy Endings, I wish those crazy kids were making it work off the sound stage. And I can’t be the only person who spent all of 2006 wishing on stars that Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski of The Office were more like Pam and Jim, except actually dating rather than just exchanging longing looks.

Which fictional pair are you rooting for in real life? Check out these responses from EW staffers, then add your two cents in the comments.

Nuzhat Naoreen: “Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes! (They used to date so it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility!)”

Erin Strecker: “Totally seconded for John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer. I wanted that to happen BAD in high school. Lauren Graham and Scott Patterson from Gilmore Girls, obviously. And I wouldn’t want anyone replacing Will Arnett, but in an alternative universe, can Amy Poehler and Adam Scott please get together?”

Elena Grothe: “For me, it’s Castle and Beckett: Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic”

Grady Smith: “There’s a giant faction of fans that want Colin Morgan and Katie McGrath from Merlin to get together in real life — they call themselves the McMorgans. I learned about them when I interviewed those two at Comic-Con.”

Tanner Stransky: “I always really wanted Lynette and Tom from Desperate Housewives to be real. Like, they were a really good couple for the most part.”
