After watching the men’s U.S. Olympic gymnastics trials, we already had our eye on 20-year-old Jake Dalton (pictured), who made the team thanks to his phenomenal floor and vault scores and large cheering section of supporters wearing T-shirts with his face on them. But now, after reading the headline “Olympian Dalton inspired by American Anthem” on NBCOlympics.com, we’re officially fans.

Dalton says he was probably seven years old when he started watching the movie on VHS and realized he wanted to be like Mitch Gaylord (the member of the gold medal-winning ’84 team who stars in the ’86 film opposite Janet Jones). “I haven’t seen it in a long time, but I just remember watching it and enjoying that movie because he was into dirt bikes, but he was also doing gymnastics out in the forest. Just a really cool movie when you’re that young,” he adds. Watch the American Anthem trailer below.
And Jake, please tell us you’ve seen Gymkata starring Kurt Thomas. If not, we’ll mail you a copy.
