They may not have been enlisted by the commander-in-chief, but a host of A-list celebrities have been drafted by the First Lady for a different kind of military campaign: Alec Baldwin, Bradley Cooper, Michael Douglas and other stars have lent their celestial power to a new PSA for Michelle Obama’s “Got Your Six” campaign, which aims to help military veterans find jobs, education and housing and altogether re-enter civilian life.
The PSA campaign features a number of celebrities–including Tom Hanks, Judith Light, Tracy Morgan, Sarah Jessica Parker, Pharrell Williams and Brian Williams–repeating the expression “I’ve got your six,” which in the military means “I’ve got your back” (referring to the number six’s directional position on the clock). A press conference on Friday morning is expected to further inform about the venture, including the announcement of a number of Hollywood industry partners and their plans for integrating the campaign into film and television projects.
“The entertainment industry captures our imaginations, opens our eyes and touches our hearts, and I’m proud to work with them on our Joining Forces initiative,” said First Lady Obama in a press statement. “By sharing the stories of strength and resilience that define our military families, we can motivate even more Americans to honor these courageous individuals in new ways. That’s why I’m looking forward to working with the industry in the months and years ahead.”
