Jon Stewart criticizes Obama for slow-jamming news: 'You're the president! You don't have to do this s-- anymore!'

When Barack Obama lent his smooth vocals to a “Slow Jam the News” segment this past Tuesday, Jimmy Fallon’s studio audience ate it up. But as our own Ken Tucker noted in his review, “There are those who’ll look at Obama’s Fallon appearance and say he’s being ‘un-Presidential'” — after all, a sitting commander-in-chief presumably has more important things to do than trying to prove he has a sense of humor on a late-night talk show.

And on last night’s Daily Show, Jon Stewart embraced this sentiment, criticizing Obama for “running to replace Brian Williams.” (The NBC anchor is, traditionally, Fallon’s slow-jam partner.) After airing a clip of Obama’s Roots-backed appearance, the Comedy Central host said, with mock outrage, “Somebody’s got to be an adult around here!” Then came the kicker: “Mr. President, you’re the president. You don’t have to do this s— anymore.”

I wonder if the POTUS will still think Jon Stewart is “brilliant” after seeing this clip.

Stewart was quick to add that his own show would, of course, love to host Obama again. And even though this bit was in good fun, I can’t help but think that the Daily Show anchor has a point. It is understandable that a candidate will do whatever it takes to win over voters — including the younger ones who watch Late Night and, yes, The Daily Show. But a sitting president doing the same thing is a little undignified.

Do you agree with Stewart, PopWatchers? Or were you tickled by Obama’s slow-jamming — even if it made the president look less presidential?
