Break out your spangly tuxes and commemorative Doogie Howser lunchboxes: Neil Patrick Harris will host the Tony Awards for the third time in June. And if it’s anything like his previous hosting stints, this one’s going to be legen… Well, you know.
NPH’s opening and closing songs have been the best thing about two recent Tonys telecasts. In 2009, he impressed with a West Side Story parody tune about the night’s winners. Last year, he upped the ante with “It’s Not Just for Gays Anymore,” a catchy number that still gets stuck in my head. Though new shows like Once aren’t as ripe for parody as, say, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, I’m still confident that NPH will find exciting ways to skewer them — and the Great White Way more generally — in song.
The show will air live from New York’s Beacon Theater on Sunday, June 10. Tell me, PopWatchers: Are you as excited as I am to see NPH take the stage? And what do you think will make it into his opening number?
