A new Saturday Night Live host has been announced, and it’s (now, say this in your best Oprah voice) Maya Rudollllllllllllph! On Feb. 18, the Up All Night star is coming home to Studio 8H, where she starred as a regular cast member from 2000 to 2007.
Two awesome things about this news: 1) Rudolph, who also starred in the acclaimed Away We Go in 2009, is now established enough in Hollywood to be able to return as host, and 2) That Saturday Night Live will be able to welcome back one of its most talented female alums. And that’s saying a lot, considering Rudolph was a cast member during SNL‘s golden era for women, appearing alongside Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
But, of course, a return to SNL means we can expect the return of some of Rudolph’s most notable characters. Which ones? My three requests, after the jump.
1) Donatella Versace: Not just because I find incredibly out-of-date references to be hysterical, but also because it’s been far too long since I’ve heard “Get ooooout!” Let’s rectify that with a video, shall we?
2) Oprah Winfrey: Of course, if she could do her Gayle King at the same time, too, that would be lovely and impressive. Say it to me, Rudolph: You get an Oprah sketch!
3) Whitney Houston: A Rudolph SNL appearance without Houston? Hell to the no!
Your turn, PopWatchers: What Rudolph character would you like to see Feb. 18?
