Stephen Colbert stages rally in South Carolina for Herman Cain

Stephen Colbert, a.k.a. God’s Greatest Gift to Pundits, served up another mashup of real and fake politics today, as he held a rally in his home state of South Carolina for former Republican Presidential candidate Herman Cain, titled “Rock Me Like a Herman Cain South Cain-olina Primary Rally.” An estimated 3,300 people gathered on the College of Charleston campus to witness the spectacle, in which the Comedy Central faux commentator — who announced last week on The Colbert Report that he was running for “President of the United States of Carolina” — joined forces with the Godfather of 9-9-9, who suspended his campaign in December. (Colbert couldn’t get his name on the SC ballot, so he glommed onto Cain, whose name was left on.)

In the video below, you will see Colbert lead the choir and chairless crowd through a rendition of “This Little Light of Mine,” claim to rise above dirty politics (“I won’t be saying things like, the only difference between Mitt Romney and a statue of Mitt Romney is that the statue never changes its position”) and urge the crowd to vote for his fellow Washington agitator, Herman Cain, who then urged the crowd not to vote for Herman Cain, but to form an “army of Davids” to take the power back from those D.C. Goliaths.

How does Colbert’s latest melding of comedy and politics make your brain feel? Also: Whose vocals stylings do you prefer: Colbert’s, Cain’s or…. President Obama‘s?
