What's your most infuriating DVR failure? Mine won't tape 'Housewives.'

I understand that complaining about a DVR means I have first-world problems. I mean, we’re talking about a technological aid that we managed to live successfully without for decades of TV-watching. But still, now that the DVR exists and has integrated itself into my daily routine, it is not allowed to fail. And yet, it continues to do so. DVR, you’re simply too big (a part of my life) to fail!

As someone who watches way too much television (and who has moved often in recent years), I have gone through my fair share of DVRs. And I’ve gathered enough of a collection to realize that each has a distinct personality. (I also name my iPods. I realize I have a problem.) For example, my previous DVR was a high-class machine with guilty pleasure tendencies. But it also had standards — it would record the likes of Mad Men and American Idol performance episodes without incident, but good luck trying to get it to successfully record the American Idol results show. Was it, in its way, railing against lazy, time-wasting television that exists more to sell cans of Coke than entertain its devoted audience? And has it somehow slipped its way into Nigel Lythgoe’s┬ámind since leaving my apartment? I’d like to think so.

My current DVR, however, seems to have an infuriating and troubling aversion to Bravo. For the second day in a row, I’ve returned home to find that my repeated attempts to record the most recent episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills have miserably failed. I’m assuming this is a form of protest critiquing society’s off-putting desire to derive entertainment from the possibly abusive marriage of a meltdown-prone, unhappy woman and her now-deceased husband, but sorry, DVR. My life’s just incomplete enough that I need a Beverly Hills housewife like Kyle Richards to irrationally hate based on 40 minutes of edited footage. Now excuse me as I down a bottle of Pinot Grigio and scream nonsensically at you.

PopWatchers, when does your DVR fail most? Does your DVR have a personality? Do I need more friends?
