Is 'The Muppets' a communist Trojan horse?

While I was driving home yesterday after seeing The Muppets, joyfully singing along to “The Rainbow Connection” with my two young children, I noticed my eldest had gone silent right around the verse that goes, “Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices?” I peeked at him in the rear-view mirror and saw he was staring out the window with a furrowed brow. “What is it, buddy?” I asked.

“Why were the Muppets so mean to that job creator, Tex Richman?” my boy said. “He never did anything to them, except provide the gas that allowed them to drive to Paris underwater and find Miss Piggy.”

Ah, from the mouths of babes… READ FULL STORY »

Boardwalk Empire‘s Steve Buscemi ushered in the holiday season Saturday night, hosting SNL for the first time since 1998. Back then, he was a revered character actor most famous for playing the “weaselly thug” from Fargo who got shoved into a wood-chipper. Today, he’s the star of HBO’s award-winning drama — buuuuut still most famous for being fed to that wood chipper, no? READ FULL STORY »

Angelina Jolie answers everyone's question about whether she and Brad Pitt will ever get married -- VIDEO

There may be no question posed to Angelina Jolie more than whether or not she and equally mind-bogglingly attractive partner Brad Pitt will ever get married. (Well, that and “How about a Beowulf sequel, already?!” Sarcasm.) It’s not just the tabloids splashing the still-burning question across their cover. Heck, even Jolie and Pitt’s children are asking them about it.

During an interview with Christiane Amanpour for a segment that will air on both Good Morning America and Nightline, the Oscar winner, who is making the rounds to promote her latest film and directorial debut, the war drama In the Land of Blood and Honey, assured her interviewer she wasn’t the only one asking that oft-posed question. Jolie said, “The kids asked me the other day, and I asked them if it was just because they wanted to have a ‘big cake.’” (In her kids’ defense, even if that is their reason, it’s a pretty valid one.) She continued, “They see movies that have the people getting married in the movies … you know, the happily ever after. Shrek and Fiona are married.” Then Jolie, who has become something of an expert question fielder over the past few years, told Amanpour, “We’ve explained to them that our commitment when we decided to start a family was the greatest commitment you could possibly have. Once you have six children, you’re committed.” Well, that answered that, all right. Watch the moment below: READ FULL STORY »

Giuliana Rancic announces double mastectomy on 'Today' -- VIDEO

Filed under: News, Reality TV, Television, TV and tagged: ,

Two months since announcing her battle against breast cancer, E! news’ Giuliana Rancic returned to Today to reveal she’s taking her treatment to the next level. Though she initially opted for a double lumpectomy coupled with radiation, the conservative treatment hasn’t been as effective as she and husband Bill Rancic hoped. Now she is moving forward with a double mastectomy in one last attempt to scuttle the cancer for good.

“All it came down to, in the end, was just choosing to live and not looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life,” she told host Ann Curry. See the Rancics’ other reasons for choosing this course of treatment in the full interview below.

All I want for Christmas is more videos like these two. Internet, will you accept that challenge?

I already know this is going to be a very, very good Christmas. How can I be so certain? Because any holiday season that includes a viral video in which dancers Alex Karigan and Zac Hammer expertly shimmy and prance to Mariah Carey’s best-Christmas-pop-song-ever ”All I Want For Christmas” — all off it shot Bob Fosse style in one continuous take — is already a thoroughly happy holiday season indeed. From their Santa red unitards to their knee-high Christmas stockings, this is just absolutely perfect. Watch, and enjoy:  READ FULL STORY »

On the Scene at 'Trevor Live': Amy Poehler is a goddess

The minute Amy Poehler introduced herself as “the founder of Facebook, the creator of Harry Potter, and the best of Herman Cain’s lovers” and admitted she was too lazy to go full host and would instead act as the evening’s announcer/voice of God, it was obvious that the Trevor Project’s annual benefit, Trevor Live, was not going to be the average stuffy snoozefest.

“That’s exactly my goal because I do too many of these things as an audience member and they can get a little boring with too many speeches,” Adam Shankman, the evening’s special guest director, told EW on the red carpet outside the Hollywood Palladium Sunday night. “I’m taking my cue from the Grammys and making it all about performances and a couple of speeches. Everyone in there knows what the problems are and is already a supporter, so I figure we show them a good time and hope that encourages them to donate even more.” READ FULL STORY »

Madonna Super Bowl playlist: What should she sing during the half-time show?

Get into the (football) groove: Madonna has officially been announced as the featured performer for the Super Bowl XLVI half-time show on Feb. 5 in Indianapolis. While it’s still a little too soon to place our bets on which teams will play in the big game (where’s Lisa Simpson when you need her?), that doesn’t mean we can’t start to guess, or at the very least make our wish list, for what the Material Girl will sing during the half-time show. (Early prediction: She probably won’t play “Material Girl.”)

While last year’s half-time act/pod people of the future the Black Eyed Peas, along with Usher and Slash, played eight tunes, the standard playlist by previous performers like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Paul McCartney, and U2 has featured three to five of their greatest hits. (Then again, Prince rocked no less than seven during his Super Bowl XLI appearance.)

So what’s the ideal Madonna playlist? READ FULL STORY »

'Kourtney and Kim Take New York': How to not save a relationship

Kourtney-and-Kim

Khloé has always been the process-of-elimination “sane sister” of the Kardashian franchise, so her appearance on last night’s episode of Koko and Kiki Bake With Sporks was extremely welcome. Like, if the Kardashians were Metallica, then Khloé would be Kirk Hammett, Kim would be James Hetfield, Kourtney would be a somehow even more annoying version of Lars Ulrich, Kris Humphries would be Lou Reed, and this season would be the worst album ever. Metaphors are confusing! Speaking of confusing, Khloé had a few pointed questions for her sisters: “Kim, why is your husband in Minnesota? Kourtney, where is the father of your child?” READ FULL STORY »

'Glee' sectionals preview: Good songs, bad dancing (plus some stripping!)

Filed under: Glee, Television, TV and tagged: , ,

It’s sectionals on tomorrow night’s Glee, and Fox has posted a tease online that shows New Directions doing a Jackson family tribute (including Ms. Jackson’s “Control”) and the Trouble Tones taking on Destiny’s Child (“Survivor”). I appreciate that both groups are putting more emphasis on choreography than we’ve seen in the past — none of that pacing and changing formations — but both dance crews look Finn-awkward to me. A second sneak peek shows what Chord Overstreet’s Sam has been up to since we last saw him: auditioning for Magic Mike stripping under the name White Chocolate! “Cory [Monteith], the whole time we’re doing it, he’s got his phone out,” Overstreet says of filming his return. “I’m like ‘Cory, if you tweet one of those videos, I swear I’m going to kill you.’” (Cut to Monteith proudly showing a picture on his phone.) Sam’s also been learning Toby Keith’s “Red Solo Cup,” which is his first song back. Watch the previews below. READ FULL STORY »
