'A Bitchin' Christmas' music video featuring Nadia G in a red unitard: Recommended for Scrooges!

I only knew of Nadia G and her Cooking Channel show, The Bitchin’ Kitchen, in theory. So when I pressed play on this Bitchin’ Christmas music video — featuring What Not to Hair‘s Guy Fieri, Ace of Cakes‘ Duff Goldman, Travel Channel’s Andrew Zimmern, and Nadia’s fellow Cooking Channel stars Kelsey Nixon, Ben Sargent, Alie & Georgia, Vegan Black Metal Chef and the guys from Epic Meal Time (and it was made for charity!) — I had no idea the creature writhing around in a shiny red unitard and ’80s hair/makeup was the actual host of a cooking program. I assumed she was a video ho for hire, like Old Navy’s animatronic Kim Kardashian.

Is it just me or is Nadia G a pretty convincing pop star? I mean, really think about pop stars. Wait, no, don’t exert yourself. Watch the madness here: READ FULL STORY »

Let me elaborate: [Spoilers ahead, friends!] READ FULL STORY »

Taylor Armstrong: 'I was a trainwreck' this season on 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills'

Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live is known for its levity, including Cohen’s penchant to name a “Jackhole of the Day” and invite guests to play parlor games with names like “Atlanta or A-Man-ta.” Tonight, though, when Taylor Armstrong stopped by to discuss the latest in a series of dramatic Real Housewives of Beverly Hills episodes centering on her fraught marriage, the tension was palpable.

“I was a trainwreck,” Taylor admitted, regarding the filming for this latest season of Beverly Hills. All the episodes were shot while she was trying to reconcile with her husband Russell, who ultimately committed suicide in August. The get-together shown on this evening’s episode was especially stressful because it was in the wake of revelations about the Armstrongs’ abusive marriage by fellow Housewife Camille Grammer — facts that Taylor herself only admitted after her husband’s death. Looking back on the cataclysmic meltdown she suffered during the get-together at Housewife Brandi Glanville’s house, Taylor admitted, “I see a woman who was out of control…about to go off the deep end.” What else did she have to say about the last days of her marriage and today’s news that her fellow Housewife has gone to rehab?  READ FULL STORY »

Good news! 'Les Miserables' movie director Tom Hooper confirms adaptation will be 2-D

Score one for old-school movie making: Director Tom Hooper confirmed to the BBC that his in-the-works big-screen adaptation of stage blockbuster Les Miserables will be shot in 2-D. “I can definitely announce it’s good old-fashioned 2-D,” Hooper (pictured here) is quoted as saying. This news elicits exactly this response from me: Yay!

Why? It’s as simple as this: Not everything needs to be made in 3-D.

Hooper — who won an Oscar earlier this year for directing The King’s Speech — said that the had been “very tempted” to use 3-D, but he was worried that some moviegoers might “physically struggle” with the format. “If you have a certain type of eyesight it can be more demanding than watching a normal movie,” Hooper told the BBC.  READ FULL STORY »

As we await the February-sweeps Grey’s Anatomy “What If?” episode, in which we learn what would’ve happened if Derek had stayed with Addison and Meredith’s mother was alive and well, we can’t help but think of other “What If?” scenarios we’d love to see imagined on other shows — past and present (showrunners, take note!). Here are some of our picks, now tell us yours. Seconding is not only allowed, it’s encouraged. Bonus points if you give a line suggesting how it would play out. For spoiler-phobes, please put the name of the series first, so they can choose whether or not to risk reading further.  READ FULL STORY »

Mysterious videogame trailer: What is 'The Last of Us'?

Filed under: News, Videogames and tagged:

Spike TV’s Videogame Awards air this Saturday, but buzz is already building about the fact that the ceremony will feature first looks at some new videogame properties. BioWare — the Canadian super-geniuses behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age — will be teasing their new series, which may or may not be a new version of Command & Conquer. Epic Games’ Cliff Bleszinski has already been teasing a new venture from the Gears of War gurus. (According to his Twitter feed, it will not feature space marines, which already makes it 25% more original.) But most intriguing of all is a mysterious 45-second teaser tweeted by Spike TV host Geoff Keighley which appears to be a post-apocalyptic PS3 exclusive. The video cuts in lots of real-life riot footage along with a narration that mournfully describes a world gone by: “The greasy smell of a downtown hot dog, the sound of a plane flying overhead…all gone.” Apparently, there used to be a link to an official website, lastofus.com, which featured footage of an ant; that website has since disappeared. In conclusion, we don’t know anything about this game, and it already sounds better than Driver: San Francisco. Watch the teaser below: READ FULL STORY »

Xbox Live expanding its TV content: Is the end of the cable-box era?

Filed under: News, Television, TV, Videogames and tagged: ,

The modern television-navigating experience is awful. You know it. Your parents know it. Steve Jobs knew it. The American television landscape is dominated by a few cable providers which run on frail operating systems that are basically just less charming versions of the Prevue Channel. So it’s understandable that there is an emerging movement to “cut the cord”: To leave cable television behind and watch all of your favorite shows online. At this point, the “cut the cord” trend has been mostly limited to young people, who are less likely to have disposable income and coincidentally more likely to fall victim to silly trends. However, Microsoft may have just brought us one step closer to the end of the cable-box era: Starting tomorrow, the company is initiating a redesign of Xbox Live with the intention to make it a kinder, gentler, more accessible viewing platform for television. Rival social-gaming companies Zynga and Nexon are both going public

Filed under: News, Videogames and tagged:
farmville-farm

December is proving to be a watershed moment for online gaming companies: Just a few days after Farmville creator Zynga initiated a lower-than-expected(-but-still-massive) IPO, rival company Nexon set the price for its IPO on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. It’s likely to become the biggest Japanese IPO of the year, according to The New York Times. Nexon has a considerably smaller consumer base than Zynga — about 77 million active monthly players, versus Zynga’s estimated 260 million. It’s an interesting moment for the social gaming companies: Because of the extremely fraught economic climate, Zynga’s IPO was valued at $9 billion, which is considerably lower than expectations. (Forbes estimated that the valuation instantly lost Zynga CEO Mark Pincus about $650 million.) READ FULL STORY »

'How I Met Your Mother': What to expect when Robin's expecting?

how-i-met-your-mother_240.jpg

If you’re a fan of How I Met Your Mother, the past two weeks have likely felt like an eternity. We’ve spent 14 days waiting to find out the result of the series’ looming baby dilemma: Will Lily actually cave and let Marshall name their unborn child Hurricane? Okay, so that’s not exactly the question that’s still hanging heavy on everyone’s head, but she should really reconsider. (Team Hurricane Aldrin-Eriksen!)

No, the real drama (drama being the operative word here) that’s had everybody talking came from the major, whiplash-causing reveal that Robin is pregnant. And it could be Barney’s. Or it could be Kevin’s. And this whole thing is causing more anxiety than watching a Slap Bet countdown clock determine your fate. READ FULL STORY »
