'X Factor' audience crushes Nicole Scherzinger after teary elimination -- WATCH

“That means the judges lose their power,” said X Factor host Steve Jones, after Rachel Crow and Marcus Canty were forced to Deadlock, meaning viewers got to decide which singer would be sent home.

Indeed, the judges — notably the emotionally incapacitated Nicole Scherzinger — seem to have lost some of their influence after last night’s debacle. Voters may have determined the outcome, but the studio audience was not pleased with the result, booing Scherzinger when she joined Rachel Crow on stage. Watch it all again in its horrifying dream-killing splendor: READ FULL STORY »

MythBusters aren't Jackasses. Let's keep that in mind.

Yesterday, Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, hosts of Discovery’s Emmy-winning MythBusters, surveyed the damage a 30-pound cannonball did to a Dublin, Calif. family’s home while their three on-air cohorts, Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara, were calibrating a homemade cannon so it would match the power of a historical cannon. Hyneman, who along with Savage wasn’t present when the cannon was fired nearly 1,000 yards west of the home, told the San Francisco Chronicle the crew experienced “muzzle lift,” which sent the steel or cast iron ball sailing, bouncing on a driveway, through a home, across a multi-lane road, against the roof of a second home, and into a minivan. The power got away from them, Hyneman said. Added Savage, “It’s a wake-up call. Honestly, the feeling of embarrassment is not something we’re indulging in right now. We feel for the families and the people affected by this…. Some people watch our show and think that we’re reckless. Others watch our show and they see we take safety seriously. The fact is, the latter is the case.”  READ FULL STORY »

This fake 'We Bought a Zoo' Twitter feed is incredible

If you want to see the concept of the Fake Movie Twitter Feed elevated to a mesmerizing art form, take a few seconds/hours now to go and see the fake account for the upcoming Cameron Crowe film We Bought a Zoo, which has quickly transformed into a brilliant scatter grenade of hilarity. The feed is sort of told from the perspective of Matt Damon’s character in the movie — a grieving widower who buys a zoo — but there’s lots of free association, and occasionally the feed seems to be coming from Damon himself, or even from some disembodied voice of the film itself. Here are a few favorites — get ‘em before the lawyers arrive! READ FULL STORY »

The internet was buzzing earlier today with news that Shigeru Miyamoto would be retiring from his current role as head of game design for Nintendo. The iconic videogame super-producer’s achievements run through the recorded history of modern gaming, including the creation of Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, Pikmin, Nintendogs, and countless other franchises. In what appeared to be a shocker to the industry, Miyamoto told Wired that he’d been talking about retiring. “What I really want to do is be in the forefront of game development once again myself,” Miyamoto told Wired, adding, “I might be interested in making something that I can make myself, by myself. Something really small.” READ FULL STORY »

'The Daily Show' and 'Colbert Report': Comedy? Political activism? Both?

Colbert_320.jpg

We all know Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart (and Co.?) are funny guys. (“Way to start a PopWatch post on a strong, totally groundbreaking note, Sandra,” I can hear you saying.) But stay with me here.

As the stench of the election-season shenanigans begins assaulting our senses once again, it is often the quips and bold actions of these two men that get me through the season. And this is coming from someone who considers herself largely non-political — a spineless, “everyone has a good point” middle-roader who would sooner rip my tongue out than get in the middle of two people of opposite views battling at the dinner table. (And yes, this attitude stems from deeper childhood trauma, in case you’re wondering. I digress.)

But as much as I’ve enjoyed the comedy to be had from political proceedings, recent events are leading me to wonder: When does a comedian get too involved in politics? When are laughs no longer the goal? READ FULL STORY »

Lindsay Lohan's 'Playboy' cover: Is this the beginning of a fruitful train-wreck career?

Back when I first heard that Lindsay Lohan would be posing nude for Playboy, I was sad. It seemed a desperate act for a once-promising young star, a final appeal for fame from someone with no other options. It seemed this could be Lohan’s last hurrah, the last time her name would grace a magazine cover (at least, until some sort of tragedy struck). But now, just one day after her Playboy cover leaked on the Web, rocketing Lohan to the top of Internet searches, I’m realizing this could hardly be the end for Lindsay Lohan. This, in fact, could launch the beginning of an entirely new career for the Mean Girls actress.

Get your mind out of the gutter. I’m not referring to that kind of career. No, instead, Lohan could use this opportunity to transform from good-girl-gone-bad to bad-girl-gone-entertaining. In this day and age — when audiences can’t get enough of booze-fueled disastrous antics of the Jersey Shore cast — it’s not unthinkable that Lohan could carve out a fruitful career for herself as a professional train wreck. 'Community': Could this really be the end?

community-christmas_320.jpg

Ever since news broke that Community was being temporarily benched from the NBC schedule to make way for newer, hopefully-more-audience-attracting programming, I’ve been living in denial. I can’t imagine a world without Star Burns, Ring-a-Ding-Dean and Magnitude — Pop Pop! The Greendale gang have been good sports about the whole affair, tweeting their support (#SixSeasonsAndAMovie) and invading Joel McHale’s other show The Soup en masse to show us a happy, quirky family.

Bud sadly, today I am forced to face the music. Tonight’s Christmas-themed episode “Regional Holiday Music,” which finds the gang filling in for the GCC Glee Club, is the final episode before the Hiatus of Possible Doom. READ FULL STORY »

Ian Somerhalder knows what he wants for his birthday, but what would you give Damon?

Ian-Somerhalder

The Vampire Diaries‘ Ian Somerhalder turns 33 today, and should his fans want to gift him something, there’s only one thing he needs: A donation to his foundation, which aims to “empower, educate and collaborate with people and projects to positively impact the planet and its creatures.” Those who follow him on Twitter know just how seriously he takes the Ian Somerhalder Foundation. With the mystery of the perfect present for him solved, we’re busying ourselves pondering what we would gift his alter ego Damon Salvatore, EW’s Ultimate Sexy Beast. I’ll tell you my ideas, if you tell me yours:

• A bottle of bourbon
• A new John Varvatos shirt
• A gift certificate to a dance school where he could learn any style he wants (the man loves to move)
• A large frame that can hold multiple pictures, with only one photo in the center. It tells him that he’s home, and that we want him here for awhile
• Shower gel, bubble bath, and hand soaps

Your turn. Keep it TV-14!
