Single white Schmidt seeks same in hilarious 'New Girl' video

Known for his hilarious (if sometimes douchebag-y) sound bites on New Girl, Schmidt (Max Greenfield) is one of the standout characters of the fall 2011 TV season. A video just posted online shows us Schmidt working his magic as far back at 2008. In the online dating profile, Schmidt explains he’s looking for “an honest connection with… a real girl.” What follows may just be the best 40 seconds of your life, wrapped in a reality TV time capsule. So which show did Schmidt choose as his date-spiration? Hint: You better put on your coat, or else you’ll “feel the rain on your skin.” Check out the video after the jump. READ FULL STORY »

Meryl Streep lands on the cover of Vogue for the first time

meryl-streep-vogue

What would Miranda Priestly have to say about this? Vogue has now officially had the oldest actress in their magazine’s history to ever grace their cover, and it’s none other than Meryl Streep. (Even the 62-year-old herself joked in her interview that she is “oldest person” to have the honor.)

While that bit of information might sound staggering in and of itself, what’s even more shocking is that it’s Streep’s first time to ever grace the cover of the mag. (That’s right, that means Kristen Stewart, Blake Lively, and Jessica Biel had all accomplished something before Meryl Streep. Let that one sink in, PopWatchers.) READ FULL STORY »

Lamar Odom traded to Dallas: How will it affect 'Khloe & Lamar'?

Lamar-Odom

Now that Lamar Odom’s trade to the Dallas Mavericks is confirmed, reality TV fans are wondering what that will mean for the fate of his famous wife Khloé Kardashian and their reality show Khloé & Lamar. While Kardashian was gearing up for a move to New Orleans before that trade fell through, it does appear she’s planning to follow Odom wherever he lands. She has tweeted her excitement to several followers and promised to travel between L.A. and Dallas in the foreseeable future. The E! network, home to various Keeping Up With the Kardashians spin-offs, has kept mum on their specific plans for the couple after this season, but an E! Spokeman did confirm, “Khloé & Lamar is in production now, and the series covers what’s happening in their lives.” READ FULL STORY »

George Takei, Broker of Star Peace, calls for unity, war on 'Twilight.' Oh my!

George Takei has accomplished what was once thought seemingly impossible and figured a way to settle one of the oldest nerd scores: The epic Star Trek vs. Star Wars debate. Prompted by the ongoing showdown between William Shatner (“First of all, Star Wars was derivative of Star Trek derivative!”: Point Shatner) and Carrie Fisher (“Klingon? It just sounds like a laundry detergent”: Point Fisher), the great Mr. Sulu opted to take charge and become a Broker of Peace to put an end to the galaxy-and-decade-spanning feud once and for all.

But how does one do that for a embittered battle in which both sides have such dedicated, unflappable supporters? It’s quite simple, really: Call out Twilight and urge both Star Trek and Star Wars fans to come together to mutually hate on it. (All the points: Takei.) READ FULL STORY »

'Saturday Night Live' host poll: Katy Perry is in, Alec Baldwin is out

Katy Perry was a sparkly treat of a host on this week’s Saturday Night Live, but she was forced to share the spotlight with the likes of Matt Damon, Val Kilmer, and “national treasure” Alec Baldwin. Still, the “I Kissed a Girl” singer, who we now know wrote that song based upon her old volleyball coach, was more than game, nailing a Florence Welch impression, flashing a Jewel of a breast tattoo, and standing up to the Queen as a potty-mouthed Pippa Middleton. But was it enough?

How does she compare to the best of this season’s Saturday Night Live‘s hosts? Melissa McCarthy remains the frontrunner in EW’s season-long contest, with 40.3 percent in the most recent poll. Her steady support seems solid. Last week’s host Steve Buscemi jumped into second place with 27.0 percent. Jason Segel (and the Muppets) bled more than half his support but still finished third with 16.9 percent, and Emma Stone held tough with 10.7 percent of voters. Baldwin’s cameo on last night’s “Weekend Update” proved too little too late, and the all-timer was eliminated (5.0 percent) after hanging around since the season premiere.

Will Perry have staying-power? Below, I’ve embedded one clip for each of the five surviving hosts, as reminders of their recent performances. Vote below, and the host with the least popular support will be sent packing, and the other four will advance to compete next Saturday against… Jimmy Fallon! Ultimately, we’ll crown the Saturday Night Liveliest host at the end of the season. Watch and vote below. READ FULL STORY »

'Bag of Bones' part 1: How did the miniseries stack up to the novel?

BAG-OF-BONES

From the outset of A&E’s two-part, four-hour miniseries based on Stephen King’s 1998 novel Bag of Bones, it was clear that the TV incarnation of King’s ghost story would take on a very different feel from the book. (Some spoilers ahead… ) First of all, the circumstances of Jo Noonan’s (Annabeth Gish) death altered significantly from the opening chapter of the book (in the A&E version, Jo gets hit by a bus in Mike’s presence; in the novel, she collapses in a Rite Aid parking lot while Mike is at home), but these changes were forgivable because they streamlined the story a bit, which is necessary in adapting this big tome. But while it’s no surprise that the A&E version left out a lot of the details, did part 1 of the miniseries somehow feel slower than King’s 562-page book? READ FULL STORY »

This Week in Alec Baldwin: An airplane exit, a non-apology apology, and an 'SNL' appearance

It’s been nearly a week since actor/activist/American treasure Alec Baldwin was kicked off of an American Airlines flight after a dispute with a crew member over his refusal to stop playing Words with Friends on a hand-held electronic devise. In addition to ignoring FAA regulations, Baldwin reportedly made a scene by slamming the bathroom door on the plane and became aggressive and rude to the staff. (That’s right, Jack Donaghy went and pulled a Tracy Jordan.) For most celebrities, a headline-grabbing stunt like that would be enough to get them through the week, if not the entire holiday season, but then again, Alec Baldwin is no ordinary celebrity. For millions of people who have literally dozens of dollars riding on their fantasy football season, yesterday was a crucial Sunday as many pretend-leagues began their playoffs. So good luck trying to segue into the shocking Boardwalk Empire finale when your boyfriend is staring blankly into his bowl of Cheerios, lamenting his poor decision to start Matt Hasselback over Mark Sanchez. Say nothing. Give him time to mourn. But if he sulks a little too long, give him some tough love: “Why wouldn’t you go with Sanchez in December? Have the last two seasons taught you nothing?” And then run.

At the office, you can expect more of the same. Here are three things you need to know to keep up with the rehash of yesterday’s NFL action.

1. “Turns out Eli was right: He and Tom Brady are in the same class after all.” READ FULL STORY »
