Hugh Acheson blogs 'Top Chef Texas': Heather and Beverly duck it out

As told to Nuzhat Naoreen.

[This] was a game-cooking challenge and each game had a visiting chef as well. Everybody’s standing next to each other and boy, as happenstance happens the two people [Heather and Beverly] who do not want to work with each other are on the same team. You know sometimes you got to grin and bear it and boy, some people did not grin and bear it. So, it was a little exciting.

[Ed and Ty-Lor] did not put out a good product the first time they were paired up with each other. This time, they knew how to work together really well and they were just total and utter pros about it. It was pretty evident that Ed and Ty-Lor had the superlative plate. I think it was easily [one of the top] two plates so far this season. It was just all integrated. It was stylish and modern and interesting. A lot of the other [dishes] just fell into the quadrant of, “Let’s go to a 1992 game house in Idaho and eat food,” so they just didn’t rise to the forefront as much as [Ed and Ty-Lor's] did. Gary Busey withdraws Newt Gingrich endorsement

Don’t pop the champagne just yet, Newt Gingrich. Gary Busey realized he jumped the gun when he spoke out for Gingrich and today rescinded the endorsement. Per an official statement from Busey’s rep, the actor said, “It is not time for me to be endorsing anyone at this time! When there are the two final candidates, then I will endorse.” Oh, that Busey, he’s a wily one.

What do you think, PopWatchers? Should Busey have stuck to his guns? Do you listen to celebrities when they endorse or stump for political candidates? Even the ones who have been on not one, not two, and not even three, but four(!) reality shows?

Ashton Kutcher wins first 'Foot In Mouth Award'

Tagged: ,

I’m sure he’d rather have had a SAG nomination like his costar Jon Cryer, but Ashton Kutcher will have to settle for winning CelebTweets.com’s inaugural “Foot In Mouth Award,” which will regularly (dis)honor celebs who post something to Twitter that they immediately regret. Kutcher can credit his uninformed Joe Paterno tweet for this recognition. Because child abuse is not something to be made light of in year-end awards, CelebGossip Network, of which CelebTweets.com is a property, will donate $500 on his behalf to the child abuse prevention charity of his choice. We’d like to suggest #ProudPSUforRAINN, a network of PSU alumni and supporters who teamed with the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network to raise money for RAINN’s efforts to prevent and treat victims of sexual abuse. To honor Jerry Sandusky’s alleged victims, the goal was to raise over $500,000 — one dollar for each of Penn State’s alumni.

Jimmy Kimmel goes Grinch, gets parents to give their kids awful presents -- VIDEO

Inspired by his Halloween prank asking parents to tell their kids they ate all the trick-or-treat candy — and post videos to YouTube of their kids’ reactions — Jimmy Kimmel decided to raise the stakes for Christmas. Instead of taking something away, the late-night host asked parents to record them giving their kids a Christmas present early — an incredibly lame Christmas present. The result? It seems whereas missing candy inspired weeping and bottomless despair, awful presents inspired weeping and uncontrolled rage. If I’m a grinch for finding this hysterical, so be it. Jason Reitman announces 'Princess Bride' live read cast

jason-reitman-2

Jason Reitman took to his Twitter today to announce several key roles for tomorrow night’s live reading of The Princess Bride, part of the Film Independent series at LACMA. Last month, we pitched our suggestions to fill the roles, and it looks like Reitman was listening in at least one instance. As for the others, well… I guess Kris Humphries was too busy focusing on basketball to lend a hand.

That said, the line-up looks as subversive and awesome as his last two productions (The Breakfast Club, The Apartment), and Reitman has definitely established a core pool of talent from which to draw. So which actress will play Buttercup? And who will tell her beau Westley to “Have fun storming the castle”? Read on… READ FULL STORY »

Christmas is coming early: Check out Jimmy Fallon's 'Saturday Night Live' promo

Jimmy Fallon is heading back to his old stomping grounds this weekend when he hosts Saturday Night Live — just as he’d predicted — for the first time since leaving the show as a cast member. It’s pretty apparent in the promo clip for the episode that Fallon will be up to some of his old tricks. No, not by breaking with laughter — yet — rather by breaking into festive holiday song. While his renditions of the original “Christmas Is Coming Early” and a brand new take on “Jingle Bells” with Fred Armisen are good enough to get you into the Christmas — and SNL-watching — spirit, they’re no match for the classic “I Wish It Was Christmas Today.” Here’s to hoping Tracy Morgan and Chris Kattan can bury the hatchet for an encore as a nice holiday homecoming for Jimmy. (But hey, if push comes to shove, at least they’ve got the equal parts angelic and hilarious Michael Buble on hand!)

Lindsay Lohan's 'Ellen' drop out: What does it mean in the bigger picture?

Lindsay-Lohan

Yesterday was a great day for Paris Jackson, who dropped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show to discuss her late father, quirks and all. The interview provided insight into the life of a young girl who’s suffered great tragedy and somehow managed to maintain a sense of normalcy. Also scheduled for the program that day was Lindsay Lohan, who dropped out of the taping at the last minute. The missed interview was yet another down in a long string of ups and downs for Lohan, who found fame (in 1998′s The Parent Trap) around the same age Jackson is now. In that light, it’s a sad thing to consider what has become of the once promising actress in the last 13 years. How did she go from poised preteen to a Playboy bunny grasping for (and once again bobbling) her last chance at relevance? And what was the point of it all? READ FULL STORY »

George Clooney joins Dustin Lance Black's Prop 8 play

George Clooney will participate in a benefit one-night-only reading of Dustin Lance Black’s 8, a play chronicling the historic legal challenge to California’s Proposition 8, the American Foundation for Equal Rights announced today. Rob Reiner, an AFER founding board member, will direct the performance, which will take place at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre on March 3.

Black based the play on actual court documents and his interviews with the plaintiffs from the case to overturn Proposition 8, which denied gay and lesbian Californians their rights to marry. Clooney is the first of what is expected to be an all-star cast similar to the one that premiered the play in New York last September. “It is astonishing that gay and lesbian Americans are still treated as second-class citizens,” Clooney said in a statement. “I am confident that, very soon, the laws of this nation will reflect the basic truth that gay and lesbian people — like all human beings — are born equal in dignity and rights.”
