Paris Jackson tells 'Ellen' her famous father Michael Jackson 'only tried to protect us'

Paris Jackson appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show today to promote her first role in an upcoming film, Lundon’s Bridge and the Three Keys. Explaining that she took the role in the adaptation of Dennis H. Christen’s fantasy story because of it’s eco-friendly, philanthropic message (50 percent of profits will go to schools), Jackson said, “I know my dad always wanted to heal the world, and so I think it would be great to follow in his footsteps.” Jackson also discussed her memories of her father, including some of his more controversial parenting decisions. See what else she had to say below. READ FULL STORY »

Howard Stern as an 'AGT' judge: News that makes you want to watch... or avoid the show for good?

Baba Booey!” or simply “Boooooo!”?

The news that Howard Stern has been hired by NBC as a judge for the America’s Got Talent has already been met with very mixed feelings from fans. Will the notoriously bawdy shock jock make the family-friendly reality competition decidedly not so anymore? Or will Stern be just what the show needed, in terms of having a judge you hate/love to love/hate, with the departure of Piers Morgan?

But, perhaps the most intriguing question out of all this — and the one that NBC undoubtedly hoped people would be asking — is: Will this make TV viewers who have never tuned in to America’s Got Talent before actually feel compelled to watch? And not just the controversial radio personality’s devoted fans who will follow him from Sirius XM and beyond. (Though how much they’ll want to watch a subdued Stern raises another question entirely.) I’m also talking about those who don’t particularly care for Stern or America’s Got Talent: the curiosity seekers. READ FULL STORY »

Watch Rooney Mara's visit to 'The Late Show with David Letterman' -- VIDEO

The girl with the busy schedule.

Before heading over to the Ziegfeld Theater for the premiere of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, star Rooney Mara stopped right around the block at The Late Show With David Letterman to talk about, among other things, her football background (Fun faux fact: For two years she was a wide receiver for the Broncos. Take that, Tebow!) and the arduous audition and filming process once again. Check out Letterman’s (who seemed pretty psyched about the film, wouldn’t you say?) full interview with the Golden Globe-nominated actress below, including the anecdote at the 9:40 mark in which Rooney describes what happened to a drunk wedding guest who asked her to dance while she was still trying to shake off playing Lisbeth Salander. Let’s just say, it doesn’t end in a fox-trot for the poor guy.

Rebecca Black, Justin Bieber, and Herman Cain top 2011 Google search lists

friday

Santa knows what you’ve been Googling all year now, too: According to ABC News, Google released their lists for the top searches in the U.S. for 2011 and Rebecca Black, Justin Bieber, Herman Cain, and the art of planking all ranked the highest in their respective categories, Fastest Rising Searches of 2011, Most Popular People, Fastest Rising Politics Searches, and Fastest Rising Google Image Searches. (In other words, America is officially placed on the naughty and Do Not Call list.)

Fueled by the I-Can’t-Believe-This-Is-Real YouTube phenom that was the “Friday” video (and perhaps some fact-checking to find out if, in fact, “Tomorrow is Saturday and Sunday comes afterward”) newcomer Rebecca Black was no. 1 Google’s Fastest Rising Searches of 2011 list, beating out Google’s own Google+ and topping  some of 2011′s most newsworthy names including Ryan Dunn, Casey Anthony, Adele and Steve Jobs.  Here’s the full list: READ FULL STORY »

'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' premiere: red-carpet photos!

While ticket-buying audiences still have to wait until Dec. 20 to see The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo in theaters, those who were at last night’s premiere of the film at New York City’s legendary Ziegfeld Theatre got to watch the highly anticipated adaptation. (But, hey, look on the bright side, anxious PopWatchers, you’ll still get to see it one day earlier than you’d originally planned.)

Amongst those in attendance were director David Fincher, as well as many of the film’s stars including Daniel Craig, Robin Wright, Joely Richardson, Stellan Skarsgard, Yorick van Wageningen, and, of course, Rooney Mara (mere hours before the announcement of her first Golden Globe nomination for her performance as Lisbeth Salander) looking sleek and sexy in a black and lace peek-a-boo dress. Check out the red-carpet photos below, featuring other Dragon Tattoo premiere guests including Viola Davis, Michael Michele, Taraji P. Henson, Anthony Edwards, and supportive sister Kate Mara.

Golden Globes snubs: Melissa McCarthy, Jim Parsons... 'Breaking Bad'!?

Everyone — and I mean everyone — loves Melissa McCarthy, star of TV’s Mike and Molly and scene-stealer from this summer’s gal-pal hit, Bridesmaids. So I had to check my Golden Globes scoresheet multiple times before it finally sank in that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association had ignored both her performances this year. Not cool, Hufpa. 'The X Factor' on the scene: Paula's strutting, Rachel Crow's doppelganger, and six other things you didn't see on TV

X-Factor-final-four

You know what being at a live taping of The X Factor is like? A boxing match.

Now, mind you, I haven’t been to too many boxing bouts in my time. (My reputation can’t withstand too many of those, honestly.) But I’ve hit a couple over the years, and being in the studio last night at L.A.’s CBS Television City as Marcus, Chris, Melanie, and Josh battled it out felt something like those nights at the MGM Grand Garden Arena: A big fight was going on in the middle of the venue; the crowd was yelling like crazy, sometimes shaking their fists; and yes, the stands were trembling with all the stomping and jumping from the audience. In fact, there were several moments where I thought we all might be going down in those stands together in one massive heap that would turn the entertainment-news world on its head, but alas, those stands at The X Factor can withstand quite a lot. Not a person was harmed — even those battling it out on stage — last night, thankfully.

The evening, with all its energy, however, did provide quite a few tidbits that I observed from inside that you most likely didn’t gather from watching on screen. (The commercial breaks at The X Factor tapings are rather entertaining!) The most interesting moments included everything from Paula strutting around the judges’ platform to a wave from a super-excited Mackenzie Phillips, who was in the crowd. Enjoy my observations from inside The X Factor dome:
