Angry Birds' 'Wreck the Halls' cartoon: Fun on the slopes, but I miss balloon bird

The Angry Birds empire has been growing ever larger since it first sling-shot its way into millions of addicts’ players’ two years ago this month. There are the plush toys, the movie tie-ins, the haute couture. And now those sassy Finns at Rovio are trying to elbow their way into seasonal animated specials.

Yesterday, to commemorate the release of it’s “Wreck the Halls” level in Angry Birds Seasons, Rovio released an animated tale with hints of How the Grinch Stole Christmas with a dash of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Check it out below:  READ FULL STORY »

Fall TV post-mort: What are you still watching? DVR'ing?

New-Girl

Let’s think back for a moment to the start of the fall TV season when we were giddy with hope and optimism about all the new (Hart of DixieNew Girl! The X Factor!) and old (Modern Family! Glee! Fringe!) shows we’d watch in the months ahead. Back then I posted a series of blog posts outlining what I planned to view live versus DVR every night of the week. At the time, I really did have every intention of sticking to my schedule, but naturally as the weeks wore on and plotlines developed my interests began to waver, for better and for worse. I’m sure you know what I mean, unless you’re one of those people who actually follows through with your goals, in which case we can’t be friends. Nevertheless, now that we’re in the midst of the dreaded hiatus period, I figured it would be a good time to reflect on where we started off this season and where we ended up. Check out my day-by-day post-mort below, beginning with all the shows I so naively intended to watch: READ FULL STORY »

In coming up with a shortlist for the best and worst TV trends of the fall season, we’re starting to wonder if ABC’s Happy Endings and Fox’s New Girl are the same show. Anyway, here are some random trends we’ve noticed. Please, add your picks!

Deep V-neck shirts. Dave is a V-neck addict on Happy Endings, the gang mocked CeCe’s DJ ex-boyfriend Gavin for wearing too many on New Girl, and perhaps most demonstrably, Andy Samberg and Ben Stiller had an extreme Deep V-Off in an SNL digital short. READ FULL STORY »

'Saturday Night Live' recap: Jimmy Fallon's Christmas episode was joyful and triumphant

It’s easy to be jaded about the holidays. It’s not unlike the temptation to feel weary and blasé about Saturday Night Live. Both seemed to feel more special when we were younger, didn’t they? But you would have to be a Grinch with a heart (and funny bone) two sizes too small not to have gotten into the spirit of last night’s joyous, hilarious, and often times touching, instant classic episode of Saturday Night Live. It encompassed all the things that make the holidays — and SNL — so wonderful when done right: It reunited old friends, brought back fond memories, and made us believe there was a little bit of magic in the air.

Of course, there may be no star better suited to spread that kind of joy to Studio 8H than Jimmy Fallon, who hosted for the first time since leaving the show as a cast member. After all, the Late Night host brings a free-spirited sense of fun to everything he does. Jaded is simply not on the guy’s radar at Christmas or any other time of the year, for that matter.

Best of 2011 (Behind the Scenes): Alamo Drafthouse CEO-Cofounder Tim League on the infamous 'Don't Talk - Angry Voice Mail' PSA

As 2011 comes to a close, EW.com wanted to honor some of the hardworking names and faces from behind the scenes for their outstanding achievements. We asked Alamo Drafthouse CEO-cofounder Tim League to explain how the best movie theater in America — which has a strict no-talking policy dating back to 1997, and also prohibits patrons from texting — took the “Silence Is Golden” message to a whole new level. For more behind the scenes access to the year’s best TV and movie scenes, click here for EW.com‘s Best of 2011: Behind the Scenes coverage.

By: Tim League

One of the craziest moments of the year for us at Alamo was the launching and subsequent viral sharing of our “Don’t Talk – Angry Voice Mail” PSA.

The story began with our staff at the Alamo Drafthouse Village simply doing their job. The anonymous customer, despite what she tries to say in her voice mail, didn’t just use her phone to get to her seat. She was texting throughout the movie and was warned to stop or get kicked out. After being warned, she was rude and belligerent and then persisted with her texting. A manager was called and she was kicked out of the theater without a refund. READ FULL STORY »
