Televangelist Pat Robertson blasts 'SNL' for Tebow sketch

Last week, Saturday Night Live featured a sketch about Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, in which Jesus (Jason Sudeikis) appeared and told Tebow (Taran Killam) to “tone it down” with his religious zealotry. Since airing at nearly 1 a.m. on Sunday morning, the skit has become an Internet sensation (not unlike, say, the Tebowing meme). It’s also drawn fire from religious commentators, who think it was marked by bias against Christians. Watch the video and learn about the Christian leaders’ accusations below. READ FULL STORY »

Matt Damon called in to KCRW’s “The Business” yesterday. Among other things, he discussed his step behind the camera for his as-yet-untitled directorial debut, confirming that Frances McDormand is co-starring in the film, written by John Krasinski. Damon also discussed his proclaimed “heterosexual life partner” Ben Affleck’s brush with tabloid infamy, working with Cameron Crowe and Tina Fey, and those cutting comments he made in a recent GQ article about Bourne scribe Tony Gilroy, who he accused of phoning-in the script for the third film. Check out the highlights, then listen to the full 28-minute interview below. READ FULL STORY »

The Lindsay Lohan issue of Playboy magazine seems to be a hit. Hugh Hefner tweeted on Sunday that “The Lindsay Lohan January-February Double Issue is breaking sales records.” Though Playboy isn’t releasing official numbers yet, a spokesperson for the magazine said the issue is doing “very well.”

A spokesperson for Hudson News, one of the countries largest chains of newsstands, also didn’t have figures yet, but concurred that “we have noticed excitement in the stores about this issue … so we assume that the issue will do very well.”

But will it be a record-breaker? READ FULL STORY »

'Star Wars: The Old Republic' launches today. Can it defeat 'World of Warcraft'?

Expectations are high for Star Wars: The Old Republic, the just-launched massively-multiplayer online RPG, which represents probably the most ambitious effort to provide an online-game alternative to World of Warcraft. The game comes from BioWare, a company with experience crafting galactic space operas — they created the Mass Effect series, and also developed the fondly-remembered Knights of the Old Republic, a dry run for SW:TOR. With a rumored production cost between $135 and $150 million, it’s one of the most expensive games in history. And, as noted by Forbes, the decision to give voice to the in-game dialogue (instead of just communicating via textbox, like Warcraft) means that The Old Republic has the largest voice cast of any videogame… ever. To celebrate the launch, Stormtroopers flocked to the NASDAQ to ring the opening bell (see picture). Will it all pay off? READ FULL STORY »

Someone is suing Snooki for $7 million

No one succeeds in America without suffering through a few lawsuits. It was true for John D. Rockefeller, it was true for Mark Zuckerberg, and now it’s true for the cast of Jersey Shore. This year, the show’s male mascot and demonic supervillain Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino filed suit against Abercrombie and his own flesh and blood. Now, female mascot and real-life cartoon Tasmanian devil Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is experiencing her own exciting experiment in litigation. In October, Snooki sued licensing company SRG Ventures, arguing that the company didn’t fulfill its obligation to her — or, in legal terms, “they didn’t make her as rich as The Situation” — and attempting to be released from her contract.

Now, as originally reported by the New York Post, SRG has filed a $7 million countersuit against Snooki, claiming that the reality star was negotiating with other companies behind its back. READ FULL STORY »

Filed under: News, TV and tagged: ,

Ever since CNN asked Kathy Griffin to host its New Year’s Eve broadcast for the first time back in 2007, the fiery comedian has made it her mission each year to a) get fired and b) humiliate cohost Anderson Cooper. Griffin visited Piers Morgan Tonight Monday to preview her fifth year on the job, including her diabolical plans to drunk-dial Wolf Blitzer and roofie Cooper. ”My dream is to make the screen turn to a bar code,” she proclaimed. See the full video below.

Ryan Gosling and Jim Carrey celebrate a very drunk Christmas

Two timeless holiday traditions — a reading of  “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” and… booze — have been melded together by FunnyOrDie. The holiday edition of their “Drunk History” series features a sauced telling of the classic poem, as Jim Carrey, Ryan Gosling, and Eva Mendes are put through the slurred paces. An inebriated whiskey-lover named Allan struggles through the nearly 200-year-old tale, though he knows he stumbles when he says lines like, “The children were hung…”

Gosling’s “spring” from his bed could use a little work (but then again, why would anyone be in a rush to leave a sleeping Eva Mendes?). Carrey — best known as a Grinch or at least a Scrooge — finally gets to play the jolly big guy here, reminding us why Santa always has a rosy red nose and cheeks. Lunchtime Poll: What did 'Home Alone' kid Kevin McCallister grow up to be?

One of my favorite holiday movies is the 1990 home security comedy Home Alone. Does anyone better embody the spirit of Christmas than Polka King of the Midwest John Candy as he offers Catherine O’Hara a ride in the back of a van from Scranton to Chicago? You gotta love the Kenosha Kickers! (I never appreciated them at the time; now I think they’re one of the most brilliant parts of the whole movie.) Also, sometimes when I see “Merry Christmas” emblazoned on something, I hear those words as spoken softly by Old Man Marley in the sad church scene. You’d think I’d imagine them as spoken by Santa, or my parents or something — but nope, it’s the scary snow-shoveling neighbor from Home Alone. Whatever works!

I’ve recently been wondering what Kevin McCallister might have made of himself. Crafty little freak, that one. He’d be a thriving, well-fed, hopefully non-vampiric 29-year-old today. On which of his many talents — interior design, trickery, sabotage, coupon-clipping — would Kevin choose to capitalize? Would he get his own OWN program following the cancellation of The Nate Berkus Show? Would he and his monogrammed backpack resurface on TLC’s Extreme Couponers? Would he become an all-grown-up spokesperson for aftershave? The founder of an institute for infectious “you’re such a” disease research? The possibilities are as endless as Kevin’s quest to reach Buzz’s tarantula on the stairs to the third floor.

I’ve listed some career options below — vote or suggest your own! READ FULL STORY »
