Snooki's guidette beauty regimen is even grosser than you'd think...

We may live in a world where people put nightingale dung on their faces and let flesh-eating fish nip at their toes, but it still sounded like the Internet was playing a trick on Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi when she revealed her latest beauty secret on Conan last night. In her new book, Jersey Shore‘s favorite guidette mentioned that she likes to save money on her beauty regimen by Googling DIY treatments.

The latest and greatest, Snooki said, was putting cat litter (“Clean cat litter!” just in case you wondered) on her face. “It’s got exfoliates, they’ve got rocks in there,” she insisted, “It makes your skin really smooth,” and later added, “I haven’t broken out yet!” A ringing endorsement if there ever was one. See her describe the home remedy, plus advise Conan on how to become a guido, below. READ FULL STORY »

Google calls SOPA bill 'draconian,' sounds the censorship alarm

Categories: Tech

Congress wants to crack down on Internet piracy but its new proposals are not being embraced by some of the web’s biggest players. The Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA, was proposed in the House of Representatives in October with a goal of stopping foreign torrent websites from stealing content, like movies and music. The Senate is currently considering its own Protect IP Act, and though the MPAA and the RIAA support the legislation, Internet giants like Google and Facebook fear that the bills, should they pass, would introduce unwanted regulation and censorship. SOPA would give the government power to shut down sites that post copyrighted content and prevent search engines from working with suspect sites. Google’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt called the legislation “draconian,” and his company teamed with Facebook, eBay, Yahoo, Twitter and other popular sites to write an open letter to Congress’ Committee on the Judiciary expressing their concerns. 'The X Factor' on the scene: Rihanna, audience questions, and... glow sticks?

X-Factor

Before heading out to last night’s The X Factor, I spent a few hours watching Syfy’s new Peter Pan miniseries Neverland, which features man-eating spiders, 10-legged crocodiles, and Bob Hoskins. Yet all of those fantastical creatures were nothing compared to what awaited me inside the Xanadome: an audience that was absolutely bonkers. They were crazy loud, reaching a decibel level comparable to a symphony of jackhammers. They were crazy energetic, sometimes jumping up and down as frequently as this adorable dog. And some of them were simply crazy crazy, like a woman in the audience who, during a commercial break, delivered an incomprehensible speech in support of LeRoy Bell — a speech that, for reasons that’ll be debated for centuries to come, ended with the words “women power!”

So when Bill the Warmup Host allowed the audience to ask the judges a few questions at the end of the show, you can imagine some of the inquiries were, um, interesting. Read on for the judges’ answers (including Paula’s response as to why the group acts have been struggling so far), plus some other on-the-scene highlights: READ FULL STORY »

'Top Chef: Texas': Hugh Acheson on rattlesnake cuisine and why you never buy frozen shrimp

As told to Nuzhat Naoreen

I flew in right at the end of [the rattlesnake quickfire]. I thought it was pretty cool that they gave them such an indigenous ingredient. A lot of things are going to be very Texas. So in that way I thought it was very interesting. I bet it took a lot of people by surprise. I’ve never even had rattlesnake. I would have been a little bit flummoxed by the challenge. All [the contestants] seemed to be pretty good at getting it done in time. Nobody seemed flabbergasted. I think the only thing that took them for a loop was the possible fact that the rattlesnake was still alive.

[During a challenge], you want to look at who your judge is and what his take on things would possibly be and meet those expectations. I think a lot of the time the contestants kind of overlook that. In this case it’s Johnny Hernandez. Johnny’s a restaurateur whose cooking is very Hispanic influenced and very nuanced. He kept saying he wanted the focus to be on the rattlesnake and that’s what Dakota, the winner, did in the end.  READ FULL STORY »

Simon Cowell joins Twittah: Read his first tweet, and speculate on what's next

The curiously addicting headache that is The X Factor has taken some heat for its lack of originality, and for good reason. But there’s one thing X has that that other overproduced Fox reality singing competition lacks — detailed instructions on how to use Twitter on its very own website. Or, since this is a show with a relatively high concentration of British people, how to use Twittah on its very own website. Fans can tweet their votes via a direct message to @TheXFactorUSA, and even follow the dastardly deeds of Lakoda Rayne if they’re so inclined. So simple! So very “now.” Simon Cowell, you bloody genius.

And yet, surprisingly, until today, Cowell had never signed on to xfactorusa.com to find out how to use the extremely popular social networking site. Whaaaat? Did he miss host Steve Jones’ 87 reminders? Was he too busy playing the role of creepy uncle to Drew Ryniewicz? Actually, he’s probably been busy tending watching people tend to his meticulously manicured lawn in the French countryside, or mercilessly sending home the best singer on the show for the sake of good television.

Well, have no fear, Factorphiles – @SimonCowell has finally arrived, and he has this to say:  READ FULL STORY »

Google Music launches assault on iTunes, Facebook, Amazon, and Spotify...with Busta Rhymes?

Categories: Apple, Music
Google-Music

Google officially launched their online music service today, although the press conference seemed almost purposefully awkward. A stammery array of Google-bot execs, a desperately unsexy orange aesthetic, the madcap assertion that Busta Rhymes’ participation was somehow exciting: Suffice it to say, this was miles away from the techlord-chic of a vintage Apple keynote. (Was Steve Jobs the only charismatic man in Silicon Valley?) But the implications are profound for pretty much every corner of the media industry.  READ FULL STORY »

Ricky Gervais hosting the Golden Globes. Should he be even meaner this year?

Gervais-at-Golden-Globes

Whether you love Ricky Gervais, or loathe the man behind The Office, Extras, and last year’s offensive Golden Globes ceremony, one thing’s for certain: You’re going to tune into the Golden Globes this year. Why wouldn’t you? Gervais made a splash hosting last year, cutting into the likes of Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, and the HFPA itself. But, clearly, members of the latter was not as offended as they seemed to be during and following last year’s ceremony, because Gervais will be back to host the 2012 Golden Globe Awards. Time heals all wounds?

Or, at least, the promise of extra viewers does. READ FULL STORY »

'Sons of Anarchy': Will Clay survive the season? If not, who should pull the trigger? Poll!

If you’re not caught up on Sons of Anarchy, stop reading now.

If you are, have you recovered from these last two weeks? I was physically out of breath watching “Hands,” the Nov. 8 episode in which we endured the painful wait for Clay’s hitman to make his move on Tara and saw Clay beat Gemma. Last night’s episode, “Call of Duty,” piled onto the tension. READ FULL STORY »

This Week's Cover: The 'Breaking Dawn' stars talk blood, sex, and that vampire baby -- EXCLUSIVE

Twihards have long been anticipating seeing Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) honeymoon on Isle Esme and consummate their marriage amid flying feathers. And as audiences will see when The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1 arrives in theaters this Friday, the love scene does not disappoint. But, according to the stars of the movie, things could have been even more steamy — if it weren’t for director Bill Condon needing to keep the action PG-13. “There’s a version where it was really intense,” recalls Pattinson in this week’s EW.  “Cinematically, cut all together, it’s awesome,” says Kristen Stewart. “But we didn’t really do that scene. ”

“And when we did,” adds Pattinson, “they kept telling us to stop.”  READ FULL STORY »

Remember back in August, when Abercrombie & Fitch declared that they would pay The Situation money to not wear its clothing on Jersey Shore? We all had a good laugh about it. Then Abercrombie’s stock dropped 9 percent, a fact which made The Situation giggle with malicious glee. But Sitch is not satisfied with seeing his enemies merely defeated. He will not rest until he crushes Abercrombie, and he sees the board of directors driven before him, and he hears the lamentations of their women. Thus, on behalf of MPS Entertainment — a company founded by The Situation and his brother, Marc — lawyers have filed a Florida lawsuit against Abercrombie & Fitch for $4 million. READ FULL STORY »
