TV Leaderboard: 'New Girl' gobble gobbles its way into EW.com reader's hearts

It may have started as one of the fall seasons most divisive new shows, but New Girl firmly grabbed the hearts of EW.com readers this week with its Thanksgiving episode, in which Jess invited prospective mate Paul Gunslinger (Justin Long) over for a turkey dinner partially cooked in a clothing dryer. Elsewhere, How I Met Your Mother‘s ongoing Barney/Robin will-they-or-won’t-they-oh-they-did-but-then-they-ultimately-didn’t plot line kept the show in second place for another week. Patrick Warburton: How an 8-year-old got the 'Rules of Engagement' star to be in her malaria PSA

The last thing Rules of Engagement star Patrick Warburton thought he’d be doing this Monday night is co-hosting a charity event for the non-profit End Malaria Now. But then a young actress and activist named Madison Moellers did a guest spot on his sitcom. “Madison and her mother presented me with this,” the big-hearted Warburton told me last week. “I’m going to be getting back Sunday night from San Francisco — my son and I are going on a great white shark trip where you go in a cage and you meet the sharks. Then I have to work on Monday. So doing an event on Monday would have been first on my list. But it’s impossible to say no to Madison.” Hence, Warburton will be appearing at Cafe Entourage in Hollywood this Monday night to raise money for EndMalariaNow.org. “It’s primarily a problem that’s happening on the other side of the planet, so it’s not in our immediate perspective,” Warburton says. “Malaria kills almost a million people every single year, and most of them are children under the age of five.”

Inspired by the Kenya-set movie The First Grader, Madison and two of her friends also filmed a PSA for End Malaria Now and even got Warburton to participate. It’s not slick but it gets the job done. Take a look after the jump. READ FULL STORY »

'Supernatural' react: Is Bobby [spoiler]?

supernatural

I’m trying to be sensitive to those who haven’t watched, so please forgive this word-padding as I attempt to not spoil the ending of tonight’s Supernatural for anyone and work up the courage to ask what I need to. Big breath. Here it goes… [Don't read on if you haven't seen the episode, obviously.] READ FULL STORY »

'The Human Centipede' inspires children's poem, cute-as-a-button t-shirt design

From South Park parody to musical adaptation to Funny or Die sketch to sock monkey to foot tattoo, it has long been clear that the NSFW Human Centipede torture porn franchise really is the gift that keeps on giving. But we never expected Tom Six’s deranged horror movies to gift us the quite delightful, kiddie-friendly t-shirt design you can see on the left.

The illustration comes from the Threadless website, where it is accompanied by a children’s poem about a “centipede human” who was always in a hurry — “He was late for his work, and late for his lunch/He was late for supper, and late for Sunday brunch” — until one day he decided to watch the Human Centipede and (spoiler alert!) died from a heart attack.

Which is sad — but, in the world of the Human Centipede, probably qualifies as a happy ending.

Ashton Kutcher talks marriage pre-divorce in 'Men's Health': 'The goal is to be in a relationship.'

Cue the uncomfortable collar pull.

In an interview that was conducted before his split from wife Demi Moore, current Men’s Health cover lad Ashton Kutcher talked candidly about what makes a relationship work, his poor communication skills (“I would just like a woman someday, somewhere, at some point in my life to say to me, ‘You’re a great listener.’ Haven’t heard it yet, and that’s a superior compliment to get from a woman. But I’m going to work on it”), and his love deal breakers. (“I could never be with a woman who felt like she needed to change me.”) READ FULL STORY »

The Annoying Orange will become a TV series on Cartoon Network

Watching an Internet meme become an actual old-media product is always cause for bittersweet joy. On one hand, you feel proud: They’ve successfully monetized! But you also feel a little bit nervous that they might lose what made them special and become S#*! My Dad Says. So it goes with the Annoying Orange, the talking fruit that has starred in an array of ever-more-absurd videos. The series was a success on the internet — the original YouTube video is closing in on 89 million views — and now it’s graduating to the relatively major leagues of basic cable. According to a New York Times report, Cartoon Network has a deal in place to bring Annoying Orange and his perpetually-annoyed friends to television. READ FULL STORY »

Joel McHale honors Regis Philbin and his 'great knife collection'

combo

How does one bid adieu and give the proper credit to a television institution like Regis Philbin? The Reege, if you will.

Some gave sweet, sincere on-air speeches, like his co-host Kelly Ripa did Friday morning, while others chose Twitter to say what was in their hearts about Regis on this, his final day as host on Live!. For instance, Ellen DeGeneres posted, “Today ends an era in television. It’s Regis’ last day. Love ya Reege. #RegisFarewell”, Jimmy Kimmel wrote, “It seems unlikely that anyone will ever top Regis”, while Neil Patrick Harris, who will step in as guest host, tweeted, “Congratulation on an extraordinary run, Regis. You’re an inspiration, and a class act. You and @KellyRipa were great together. Thank you.”

Others wrote songs about the 80-year-old icon. Actually, only Bret Michaels wrote a song about it, but it’s spectacular (sample lyric: “Your suits are top-notch/Your hair, it’s always in style”) and you can listen to it here.

Joel McHale on the other hand, who has paid tribute to Regis in his own special way over the years on The Soup, opted to send an exclusive, heartfelt and funny tribute by way of EW to the living legend. READ FULL STORY »

Tale of the tape: Bradley Cooper vs. Ryan Gosling

When People Magazine unveils its highly anticipated Sexiest Man Alive issue each year, it is generally a celebration of one of Hollywood’s most debonair stars that everyone is invited to share in – and stare at. But when Bradley Cooper became the newest member of this exclusive club earlier this week, his coronation was marred just a bit by disgruntled fans of one Ryan Gosling. The Internet that adored the “Hey, Girl” meme rushed to Gosling’s defense, and a group of about 15 self-promoters even showed up on the sidewalk in front of People‘s offices, chanting “Bradley Cooper is just fine, but Ryan Gosling is divine!” Even George Clooney, Sexiest Man emeritus, admitted that he had been rooting for his Ides of March co-star, saying “It’s gotta be Ryan, don’t you think?”

People‘s executive editor Liz Sporkin, though, is not second-guessing herself. “We stand by our man!” she said. “Bradley Cooper is the whole package. He’s gorgeous, talented, brainy, loves his mom, can cook up a storm, and speaks fluent French! Who can argue with that?”

In a sexy-man contest between two uber-handsome actors, there can only be one winner. And that is us. So, in light of the “controversy,” let’s look at the Tale of the Tape: READ FULL STORY »

'The Matrix' set to 'Mambo No. 5': A little bit of Trinity all night long!

Lou-Bega

Remember 1999? When we were afraid of the lights going out on Y2K? When President Bill Clinton was acquitted? When Sega still made game consoles? Those were good times. Boy bands were still “hot” and Saving Private Ryan won best picture (wait… what?).

Sadly, those days are gone, but thanks to some web genius we now have a perfect union of two of 1999′s most notable contributions to the pop culture lexicon: The Matrix and Mambo No. 5. (Fun fact, my friend Trevor and I went to our 8th grade Halloween party as Lou Bega and Neo, respectively.) Check out the pitch-perfect and amazingly awesome video below (wait until 1:00 for things to really look good). READ FULL STORY »

Daniel Radcliffe goes backstage with Alan Rickman -- EXCLUSIVE PHOTO

Rickman-Radcliffe

There was a Hogwarts reunion at Broadway’s Golden Theatre on Nov. 7 when Daniel Radcliffe nipped backstage to congratulate former Harry Potter co-star Rickman on his Main Stem return in Seminar. The actors, who were all smiles in Rickman’s dressing room after the show, are both currently gracing the Great White Way — at least until Radcliffe bows out of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying on Jan. 1.

Radcliffe picked a good date to visit. Thursday evening’s performance of Seminar — the show’s first press night before its Nov. 20 opening — was canceled at the very last minute because Rickman was suffering from an acute respiratory infection. (It’s the first time in the actor’s storied career that he’s ever missed a stage performance.) In Seminar, the 65-year-old star plays a cantankerous literary genius hosting a private seminar for four aspiring novelists in the play and obviously does a lot of talking (as well as spitting out choice insults). A rep for the show tells EW that “we expect to resume performances tonight!”
