Chuck Norris punches his way through 'World of Warcraft' -- VIDEO

Categories: Videogames

Semi-legendary action star Chuck Norris has proven surprisingly adept at making his Internet-assisted meta-celebrity work for him. Back in 2008, he became the mascot for Mike Huckabee’s presidential campaign, a move which forced young liberals to choose between their hippie ideals and their boundless capacity for ironic appreciation. He landed a role in Expendables 2, even though he’s the only guy on the poster who never actually made a good movie. (Hey, Van Damme was in Timecop.) Now, he’s the latest celeb to star in his own World of Warcraft commercial, which basically rehashes old “Chuck Norris is God” jokes. If you believe the ad, Norris’ character is a hunter who looks exactly like him, except the character has a pet white tiger. Which is, of course, totally unrealistic. In real life, Chuck Norris’ pet is a white Tyrannosaurus Rex. READ FULL STORY »

Poll: Did Jason Segel (and the Muppets!) steal the 'Saturday Night Live' spotlight?

Jason Segel received more than a little help in his first outing as host of Saturday Night Live. Not only did the Muppets take the time to get things started, but Segel later made out with his I Love You, Man co-star, Paul Rudd. Audience reaction seemed mixed, but I thought Segel fit right in with the cast. Embracing the shame is part of Segel’s comic DNA — see Forgetting Sarah Marshall — so I loved his commercial for the Kemper-Pedic mattress. But how does he compare with the season’s top hosts so far? Melissa McCarthy remains the frontrunner in EW’s season-long hunt to determine the best SNL host, with 55.3 percent of last week’s vote. Emma Stone was the first choice of 34.8 percent of voters, and Charlie Day (5.8 percent) and Alec Baldwin (3.2 percent) are still hanging on. The Guys could use a boost. READ FULL STORY »

Move over Jemaine: Kermit sings 'Muppets' tune 'Life's a Happy Song' with Bret McKenzie

Bret McKenzie? Present. Kermit? Present. Adorable rendition of “Life’s a Happy Song” from The Muppets? Present.

The New York Times got Kermit and McKenzie to sit down at the piano (look at how Kermie is seated cross-legged atop the piano, how cute!) for a duet of “Life’s a Happy Song,” one of the four songs on The Muppets soundtrack that the Flight of the Conchords star penned. With McKenzie taking on Jason Segel’s part (who had his own piano time with the Muppets over the weekend on Saturday Night Live) and Kermit stepping into Amy Adams’ shoes, the two have such fun, effortless banter together that by the time they sing “I can’t seem to wipe this smile on my face,” the feeling is most definitely mutual.

Watch the full clip below. My favorite (and probably Herman Cain’s favorite) moment: Kermit’s declaration that “Life’s a pizza!” Good luck getting this out of your head, PopWatchers. READ FULL STORY »

'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part I': A hater's guide

twilight-eclipse-hater

The last couple of weeks have been worrying ones for someone who has been tasked with writing a “Hater’s Guide” to each Twilight movie but who remains open to the possibility that one day the vampire franchise might actually produce a decent film. After all, if an infinite number of monkeys given an infinite amount of time can write the works of Shakespeare, then it would surely take just one chimpanzee a few weeks to write a film better than, say, 2008′s thunderingly dull series opener Twilight or 2009′s  The Twilight Saga: New Moon which, to the best of my recollection, consists entirely of Kristen Stewart’s heroine Bella looking out the window and watching the seasons change. In real time. READ FULL STORY »

Monday Morning Football: Bluffing your way through pigskin prattle

eli-manning

Just because you didn’t watch nine hours of football yesterday — or even nine seconds — is no excuse not to be prepared for the inevitable Monday-morning pigskin smalltalk in the office elevator, at the coffee machine, or heaven forbid, in some cheap motel room where you just woke up spooning with Steve Martin. (“See that Bears game last week?” “Yeah. Hell of a game. Hell of a game.” “Bears got a great team this year. They’re gonna go all the way.”)

Fortunately, there are always a few insightful deflective remarks that will prove your all-American couch-potato bona fides to the jocks and allow you to make a quick escape before they start asking more in-depth questions about which underdog you like in next’s games. Be careful. Don’t dive blindly into the conversation. Just pick your spot, hit them with your knowledge, and then beat a swift retreat. Less is more. You don’t want to end up like this. What's your favorite Robert Downey Jr. movie?

sherlock-holmes

Robert Downey Jr., has played many characters over his decades-long career in Hollywood, but his role as box office juggernaut is a relatively new one. Prior to starring in 2008′s Iron Man, which raked in over $300 million in the box office, Downey mostly starred in artsy projects, or as a standout supporting character alongside the likes of Woody Harrelson and (believe it or not) Tim Allen.

That’s not to say Downey doesn’t deserve acclaim for his less popcorn-y projects. Even though we look forward to seeing the actor in films like the upcoming Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows, Downey unleashed some of his best work pre-Iron Man. Just see the fascinating, quietly funny Chaplin and the appealing, uproariously funny Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. But, looking at the actor’s long resumé, which was Downey’s best film? READ FULL STORY »

'Saturday Night Live' recap: Jason Segel hosted, while the Muppets, Paul Rudd, and Olivia Wilde popped up. Believe it!

jason-siegel-muppets-2

During their lukewarm cold open, in which Jason Sudeikis played a “raw and unleashed” version of Mitt Romney (and by raw and unleashed they meant, wore a leather jacket and made “Obama hair” jokes,)  it seemed like it was going to be business– or in this case, politics– as usual for Saturday Night Live. Then, as we’d all hoped, the Muppets showed up!

No, they weren’t hosting. (Though, they pondered why they weren’t. First the Oscars, now this!) Rather, they’d stopped by to help out their pal Jason Segel, who was having his first go as SNL host. After the beaming Segel hit the stage, he told the audience he couldn’t put his genuine excitement into words. Lucky for him, there was a piano and the Muppets–namely Kermit, Miss Piggy, Rowlf, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and Scooter–nearby to give him some assistance. During the sweet, bouncy little tune, titled “I Can’t Believe I’m Hosting SNL“, Segel lived out two of his lifelong dreams at the same moment: Hosting the late night show and hanging out with his beloved Muppets. If this opening monologue–which included some great zingers from the Muppets aimed towards Lorne Michaels and Segel himself (“When people go to a Muppet movie, they say, ‘Gee, I can’t wait to see the human!”)–was any indication of how funny, heartfelt and nostalgic The Muppets will be, I think we’re all in for a treat come Wednesday. Watch the full clip, including Kermit’s spot-on impression of Ray Romano and a visit from Statler and Waldorf, here.

Jason Segel hosts tonight's 'Saturday Night Live': Talk about it here!

SNL-Jason-Segel

What do you get when you add Jason Segel + the Muppets + Florence + the Machine? Hopefully, a pretty great new episode of Saturday Night Live. While a Muppets cameo isn’t a surefire thing, it would be surprising if they didn’t stop by to help out their buddy Segel for his first time hosting SNL. (They’ve been popping up just about everywhere else these days in anticipation for their upcoming return to the big screen. Plus, just because Eddie Murphy didn’t make an alumni appearance this season, doesn’t mean the Muppets won’t!)

Still, Muppets or no Muppets, this might just be the SNL I’ve looked forward to the most this season. As a huge fan of Segel, I personally can’t wait to see him try his hand at sketch comedy. He’s always funny and charming in movies (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I Love You, Man) and on television (How I Met Your Mother, Freaks and Geeks), but how will he fare in this arena? (That is, of course, dependent on how much SNL actually uses him tonight.) I personally am not too worried about whether he’ll give it his all, as much like last week’s winning host Emma Stone, Segel has a certain appreciation and passion for comedy that comes through in everything he does. (Just watch his hilarious visit to The Late Show with David Letterman from earlier this week, it’s obvious to see how excited he was just to be in Letterman’s presence. Not to mention we already know he has a great rapport with top-notch cast member Bill Hader, from their work together on FSM.)

Add two more shows to your Broadway ticket wish list. Disney finally ended speculation that Newsies was Main Stem-bound on Tuesday when they confirmed the musical will open at the Nederlander Theatre in March. And London’s National Theatre announced that they were sending the much-loved comedy One Man, Two Guvnors and its star James Corden (The History Boys) across the pond to the Music Box Theatre in April. As for shows already on the stage, our reviewers saw a Los Angeles-to-New York transfer, two movie adaptations, and Kim Cattrall’s first Broadway appearance in over 20 years. Read the highlights below. READ FULL STORY »
