'How I Met Your Mother': Does it feel like more of a drama than a sitcom lately?

There was a moment during last night’s How I Met Your Mother episode that made me remember why I’m a fan. A moment that reminded me why after seven seasons I’m still tuning in religiously: Barney’s adorable/accurate observation that because of their pouches, sea horses should be called sea kangaroos instead. [Just a warning, MAJOR SPOILERS ahead if you haven't watched last night's episode!]

Bella's 'Breaking Dawn' wedding dress and Pippa's bridesmaids dress go on sale, just in time for your Royal vampire wedding.

You know, if you think about it, the Kim Kardashian wedding and the Breaking Dawn wedding really aren’t all that different. They were both over-hyped spectacles with wildly inappropriate partnerships in which the groom could technically be considered dead and at some point a werewolf showed up. (Just kidding, Jacob shows up to the reception in human form!) Of course, Bella and Edward’s married life (seen here, looking downright elated to be on their honeymoon together) lasted just a little bit longer than Kim and Kris Humphries’ (eternity > 72 days), and brides still want to wear Mrs. Cullen’s dress. (Sorry Kim, no one wants to take their chances on a cursed dress. Also, it was cuckoo.)

Lucky for them, designer Carolina Herrera, who made the elegant, understated dress worn by Kristen Stewart in Breaking Dawn — Part 1, will be selling the gowns at her CHNY boutiques starting next year, according to Reuters. While there’s no price set for the detailed lace and satin original, for those who simply cannot wait to marry their vampire husbands, Alfredo Angelo has made a replica that’s going for $799. New poll suggests Fox News makes you less informed than watching no news at all

Categories: Current Affairs

Apparently for some people, no news is, in fact, good news.

Fox News, and its viewers, have taken a lot of jabs over the years. Their “Fair and Balanced” slogan is an oft-used pop culture punchline and they have, at times, been accused of a certain — oh, how do you say — mishandling of the facts. Just this summer, The Daily Show host Jon Stewart got into a touch of hot water when, as a guest on Fox News Sunday, he stated rather emphatically that Fox News viewers were consistently the least-informed of media consumers. “In every poll,” he said.

Of course, wasn’t entirely true and soon after, Stewart owned up to his misstatement and made amends — of sorts — on his show. It’s not every poll that Fox News viewers score the lowest on. But there is a recent one by Fairleigh Dickinson University that suggests Fox News viewers are less informed about current events than people who consume absolutely no news at all. READ FULL STORY »

Contrarian Corner: Do you already have Muppet fatigue?

Last week, your college roommate called you out of the blue. You hadn’t spoken to him in, let’s say, 12 years. It was great to hear from him; you ended up chatting about old times for a good two hours before you finally hung up the phone. It was a delight. The next day, he called back. It was still nice to talk again about that time you did that thing in the quad, etc, etc. You thanked him for calling and promised to catch up next time he was in town. The next day, your college roommate was in town. He called you at the office and insisted you meet for drinks. Turns out he looks the same — though his voice has changed a little bit. At the end of the night, he said you’ll have to get together again soon — next time with the wives. Sure, you said, sounds like fun. The next day, your college roommate and his wife knocked at your front door just before dinner: “Surprise!”

This is how I kind of feel about The Muppets. READ FULL STORY »

Roots hit Michele Bachmann with musical snark on 'Late Night'

Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann visited Jimmy Fallon last night, and though the NBC host was generous and welcoming, the Roots couldn’t resist a musical dig at the conservative congresswomen. As she was introduced to the audience, the band played a 1985 Fishbone song, titled, “Lyin’ A– B—-.” It’s not exactly a tune everyone would know, and the Roots never got further than the “la la la la” refrain that opens the song. But ?uestlove soon tweeted that it was no accident, writing, “aight late night walkon song devotees: you love it when we snark: this next one takes the cake. ask around cause i aint tweeting title.” He then tweeted a link to the Fishbone album’s songlist. Watch the intro below: READ FULL STORY »

Ever envied Blair Waldorf’s wardrobe or Alicia Florrick’s stainless steel kitchen? (Why, yes. Yes, of course you have.) Well, soon you might be able to bid on items from your favorite TV shows, thanks to eBay. According to Bloomberg, the company has recently launched an iPad app that will allow shoppers to purchase what they see on television. As Bloomberg explains, “The idea is to recognize the brand and make of clothing and props in each scene — a jacket worn by January Jones on AMC’s Mad Men for example — and let users purchase the same item on eBay.” (Not for sale, however? Betty Draper’s inability to feel.)

While analyst Ken Sena told Bloomberg that “success has been pretty limited” thus far for the service, as “it comes down to the media relationships,” it doesn’t mean we haven’t already starting making lists about what we’d like to buy off of our favorite television shows. Here’s a few items: READ FULL STORY »

We at EW scoured the TV line-up last night to find the best one-liners from your favorite shows. Even though Blair Waldorf’s bridal shower was in the works on Gossip Girl, life on the Upper East Side was certainly not a party. Somewhere between a society-crashing leak and Blair’s potentially revived feelings for Chuck Bass, the headbandit managed to get in a cheeky movie reference. Which 2012 Oscar hopeful merited a Queen B shout-out? Read on…

On the Scene: Daniel Radcliffe, David Yates, and David Heyman talk 'Harry Potter'

It wasn’t quite an actual trip to Hogwarts, but it was an enchanting evening nonetheless for 50 or so lucky Harry Potter fans last night in NYC, who got to go to a special screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 in 3-D, which was followed by an occurrence rarer than finding a horcrux: A 30-minute Q&A (moderated by EW’s own Jess Cagle!) with Daniel Radcliffe, director David Yates, and producer David Heyman — and yes, the Potterphile in me was totally freaking out.

After the movie screening — which was awesome, but you knew that already — the anticipation for Radcliffe and Co., was building and, in one of the most surreal moments I’ve ever experienced, as soon as the epilogue ended and the credits rolled, the lights came up and walking down beside me onto the stage was Harry Potter himself. Seeing “Harry Potter” immediately after seeing Harry Potter was jolting. Try telling me all this magic stuff is not real now, friends haters. READ FULL STORY »

'Love & Hip Hop 2' star Somaya Reece has her very own pants-off dance-off -- VIDEO

Joel McHale, your Clip of the Week may have just been handed to you on a silver platter. (Or, perhaps more fittingly, served to you in a silver Soup bowl.) During last night’s installment of the VH1 reality series Love & Hip Hop 2, Somaya Reece had a pants party (well, pants-less, really) and everyone was invited when she suffered the dreaded wardrobe malfunction during one of her shows.

Watch the clip below, in which the rapper stands by the old showbiz adage that the show must go on (or, in this case, “Boob out, leg out, whatever, you just gotta keep going”) after the top of her pants came undone during a performance. The moment starts at the 1:44 mark: READ FULL STORY »

Martinez and his partner Karina Smirnoff Ice That Ankle?

Rob led in scoring after Monday’s finals, but Ricki and J.R. have topped the leaderboard all season. It’s anyone’s game tonight.

The one who should win is not always the one who does win. That sparkly planet way off in the distance in the purple chiffon sky works in mysterious ways, you know. Never voted on the show before?
