She’ll ransack Pakistan and run a scam in Scandinavia but Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego right now? The Chief is no doubt on it, but we’ve discovered that at some point she’ll be at a theater near you. Walden Media confirmed to EW the reports that they have acquired the rights to turn Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? from a beloved 90′s kids show/computer game into a live-action movie. (That’s right, you’ll get to shout “The warrant!” and “The loot!” all over again.)
According to Walden Media’s statement, they are “developing it as a potential starring vehicle for Jennifer Lopez.” While Walden Media says that “no deal has been made yet” to have Lopez star as the notorious international thief, they say she is attached to the project as a producer. (EW reached out to Lopez’s rep who did not immediately respond to confirm.)
I don’t know about you PopWatchers, but Lopez seems like the obvious choice for this. Not only would the American Idol judge look great in Carmen Sandiego’s signature hat (see above) and she could sing the tongue-twisting theme song with ease (with Rockapella, of course), but it’s about time for her to return to the big screen again. In fact, if Lopez — who is already slated to appear in 2012′s What To Expect When You’re Expecting and be heard in Ice Age: Continental Drift — did Carmen Sandiego justice, she would forever have the allegiance of everybody that grew up searching for her character’s whereabouts.
What do you think of Lopez as a possible Carmen Sandiego? What do you think of Carmen Sandiego being brought to the big screen in the first place? If Lopez doesn’t wind up playing the sneaky crook, who should? Who should play the Chief? Anyone else hoping for a Greg Lee cameo somewhere in there?
