Steven Spielberg admits he had reservations about 'Indiana Jones 4,' but still defends worst scene in 'Indiana Jones 4'

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is not a very good movie. Actually, it’s less of a movie than a horrific catalogue of everything that is miserable and boring in modern Hollywood: The urge to sequelize into infinity, the paycheck-gravitas of great British actors, the redefinition of “plot” as “a series of digitalized set-pieces signifying nothing,” the notion of Shia LaBeouf as an action hero, the notion that Russians still make interesting villains, the limits of Cate Blanchett’s greatness, but, most of all, the TV-ification of movie stardom, whereby every movie star is only really a star when they’re sleepwalking through reheated incarnations of their most iconic roles. (See also: Renée Zellweger, Sylvester Stallone, everyone who has ever starred in a superhero movie besides Christian Bale, the cast of Fast Five, the cast of Twilight.)

But Crystal Skull was directed by Steven Spielberg, who has almost certainly earned the right to strike out every now and then. READ FULL STORY »

Like a splurgin': Madonna's famous bustier sells for $72,000 at auction

Halloween is just five days away, PopWatchers, so it’s really time to settle on that costume. Will you go current and dress up as Driver from Drive (Why, oh why, isn’t that jacket available yet?!) or will you go classic and opt for vintage 80′s Madonna? If you chose the latter — and happened to have $72,000 — you’re in luck! You’ll be sporting Madge’s classic black bustier (tassels and all!) that she wore during her Who’s That Girl world tour in 1987.

According to UK’s The Daily Mail, the trend-setting corset (when was the last time you saw a female pop star wearing pants?) was auctioned off for a whopping $72,000, far surpassing its pre-sale estimate of $6,000-$8,000. (Fishnets, presumably, not included.) READ FULL STORY »

H&M launches 'Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' fashion line

After commissioning collections from Madonna and Versace, H&M is going decidedly grittier this fall. The Swedish retailer is looking closer to home to launch a 30-piece line based on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo‘s anti-heroine Lisbeth Salander. Trish Summerville, the costume designer for David Fincher’s American Dragon Tattoo remake, is spearheading the project. Fashionistas can expect stylish takes on Salander’s tomboy aesthetic that include battered jeans, cropped leather jackets, tribal earrings, leather boots, and platform wedges. See the video teaser for Salander chic after the jump. READ FULL STORY »

Eddie Murphy says he won't be singing at the Oscars -- VIDEO

Eddie Murphy has now received sound advice from two former Oscar hosts: Steve Martin and David Letterman. While Martin joked that the upcoming Academy Awards emcee should go sans co-host (Jeez, where was he last year?!), Letterman told Murphy, who stopped by The Late Show on Tuesday night, that not only should he probably not do it (“It ain’t all it’s cracked up to be”), but if he does, he should do a Dreamgirls-style song-and-dance number. But Murphy, who joked earlier this week to Entertainment Tonight that he’s aiming to be “the worst host ever,” has no intention of doing so. Watch the clip below as Murphy does a song-and-dance number explaining why he won’t do a song-and-dance number. READ FULL STORY »

When Beavis and Butt-Head met Snooki: Watch the trifecta converge on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'

As promised, Beavis and Butt-Head paid a visit to Jimmy Kimmel on his show last night. But before the animated duo made their Jimmy Kimmel debut, MTV’s other animated success, Jersey Shore‘s Snooki, was on first to discuss how Italy is different (“The roads… and the cobblestones… and the language”) and her arrests (“I’m a badass.”) When asked by Kimmel what her favorite TV shows are, Snooks replied she’s a fervent watcher of The Real Housewives of New Jersey and Mob Wives.

In what could only be described as pure coincidence, Snooki also announced she was excited for the return of Beavis and Butt-Head. Which was convenient considering the duo were watching — and judging — the show from the comfort of their famous tattered couch. (“This is a horrible interview!”) Sick of the taunting from Beavis and Butt-Head (“This a whole other show.” “You said, ‘A hole’!”), Kimmel offers up his show to the pair. (Huh-huh, pair.)

Watch Butt-Head, host of Butt-Head Live!, attempt to interview Snooki (who they have already mocked on their own show), while Beavis holds up helpful cue cards. (“Talk About Boobs”) below. Come on, you don’t want to be the only one at your Mensa meeting to have missed this! READ FULL STORY »

Poll: What is your favorite Leonardo DiCaprio movie?

Categories: Movies
J-Edgar

What Robert Redford was to the 1970s and Tom Cruise was to the ’90s, Leonardo DiCaprio has been to the 21st century. Sure, there’s Clooney and Pitt and Gosling and Will Smith, but DiCaprio is The Guy that audiences want to see star in the films that are most important to us. To his credit, he hasn’t always accommodated our whims, avoiding comic-book franchises, romantic comedies, and anything with an echo of Titanic. Instead, he’s chosen projects that speak to him first and foremost, and we’ve obediently followed him. To out of the way places like The Beach and Shutter Island, and, in November, to Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar, where he plays the paranoid chief of the FBI over the span of half a century. For almost 15 years he’s been King of the World, but at 36, Leonardo DiCaprio is only just beginning to scratch the surface of his talents. READ FULL STORY »

'The X Factor' on the scene: Simon's shameless cheerleading, and L.A. Reid's soft side

I’m torn. After spending two-and-a-half hours inside the sound and light and choreography blender that is The X Factor live studio, I cannot decide whether my nom du snark for the place should be the Xanadome or Starship Migraine. Whatever I’m calling the joint, it lives in the exact same space as American Idol‘s Idoldome — Studio 36 at CBS Television City in Los Angeles — but other than the live studio audience and the judges’ table, that is where the similarities end.  READ FULL STORY »
