Evangeline Lilly discusses learning elvish, breastfeeding on the set of 'The Hobbit'

For the rest of her natural life, Evangeline Lilly is going to have to answer questions about Lost. Did the numbers ever really matter? Why did Kate have to ruin everything? Lucky for her, those questions may subside for a while so that incessant queries about The Hobbit can take their place.

Lilly, who stars in this weekend’s robot-boxing movie Real Steel, fielded a few of them during her visit to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Monday. The actress told Leno that after Lost had wrapped, she’d intended to take time off, but she got an offer she couldn’t refuse. “Pete Jackson called and said, ‘Would you like to be an elf on The Hobbit?’ and I said ‘Yes, I really do. I really do want to do that,” Lilly recalled.

The new mom (early in the interview Lilly explains that she pulled a Claire, skipping the hospital entirely and having a natural home birth for her son) talked a little bit about her role as the new Woodland Elf Tauriel and breastfeeding her four-month old in full elvish attire. According to the star, her baby “freaked out” when he looked up an saw a mysterious, pointy-eared woman who resembled her. Lilly said that her partner (boyfriend Norman Kali) later joked, “You know his internal dialogue is, ‘Mom you wouldn’t believe what happened to me today.”

Check out the full interview below. But, if you don’t want to listen to Leno imply he can have sex for 30 hours (Good morning, PopWatchers!), skip to the three-minute mark to hear all talk of Tolkien. Watch: READ FULL STORY »

'Pop-Up Video' is back! Do people still care about the words in the bubbles?

Those of you who thought you’d been Terra Nova’d back to the ’90s when you saw both Clarissa Explains It All and Pop-Up Video on your programming guide last night, know this: Pop-Up Video is back with brand new episodes. After a nearly decade-long hiatus, the VH1 show that paired popular music videos with bubbles of trivia about their artists returned yesterday with 10 years’ worth of pop culture to catch up on. 'Two and a Half Men': Talk about third episode here!

Even after all the premiere buzz had passed, 20 million viewers stuck around last week to check out Ashton Kutcher’s second go-round in Two and a Half Men. The third episode tonight stayed pretty consistent with what’s been going on so far in the show’s ninth (!) season. If you’ve been loving Kutcher so far, tonight’s episode wasn’t going to change anything. For those who haven’t been impressed yet — well, you’re probably not going to be tuning in any more Monday nights. READ FULL STORY »

'The Good Wife': Inevitably, the dirty talk will end. But how soon?

I once referred to a Will and Alicia moment in season 1 of The Good Wife as “one of the sexiest scenes between two non-touching people wearing suits ever.” SPOILER ALERT: Will’s American Revolution fantasy in last night’s episode has now taken over that spot. Watch that scene again below. (You’re welcome.)

Will’s directness as he and Alicia pretended to be trading files instead of come-ons (“I want to take you now”) was scintillating enough that you didn’t even mind that their tryst had to be continued later offscreen. (Had they ended up in his bathroom, it probably would’ve looked a lot like the steamy rendezvous at his place in the season 3 premiere, which I’ve embedded below as well because I’m an enabler.) Update: Annie’s recap is live. Uh oh. It’s already “personal stories” night on this third week of Dancing With the Stars season 13. Planet Mirrorballus has already issued an aqua alert precipitation warning for the 8-10 PM portion of the evening. (Tears.) All across America! That’s almost never the case!

Go ahead and discuss the two-hour performance show here, or try out a more “live blog” atmosphere over at EW.com’s Viewer.

Remember to nominate your Hidden Gems of the Week in this post as usual, and I’ll see you tomorrow morning for my full recap!

In the meantime, ask me anything about THE BALLROOM (or whatever) in the video player below and I may answer your question later on! READ FULL STORY »

A call to all Seth Rogen haters: Cease and go see '50/50'

50-50

Despite strong reviews (EW’s own Lisa Schwarzbaum gave it a solid B+ rating) and stellar performances — why so little Oscar talk for Joseph Gordon-Levitt in this? — the touching and funny 50/50 didn’t fare nearly as well as it could have at the box office over the weekend. (It came in fourth place with a so-so $8.9 million.) For some, it’s because the idea of sitting through a cancer movie, no matter how many moments of levity it may have, seems unbearable. For others, it’s the idea of sitting through a Seth Rogen movie. READ FULL STORY »

Darth Vader's new 'Nooooo!' gets the parody video it richly deserves

Categories: Star Wars

Remember about a month ago, when the revelation that the Star Wars Blu-ray collection featured Darth Vader whisper-yelling “Nooooo!” during the climax of Return of the Jedi? Well, the minor fan outcry that erupted didn’t seem to hurt sales too much, proving that Star Wars fans will spend the rest of their natural lives giving George Lucas their spit-drenched dollar bills. But at least now those fans can giggle over the new video from UK outfit Sneaky Zebra, which imagines an exciting audio recording session with Vader himself. Things quickly spiral out of control, leading one of the audio guys to beg, “Let’s just do one take the way George originally intended, but for some odd reason hasn’t re-recorded or added to the films until now.” That’s the kind of trenchant commentary guaranteed to drive Blu-ray sales even higher! Watch the shenanigans: READ FULL STORY »

Billy Elliot, the 2009 Tony Award-winning Best Musical, will play its final Broadway performance on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012 after 1,304 regular performances. Featuring music by Elton John, book and lyrics by Lee Hall, choreographed by Peter Darling and directed by Stephen Daldry, Billy Elliot opened to critical acclaim on Nov. 13, 2008 at the Imperial Theatre. “After three unforgettable years, we are announcing the final performance of Billy Elliot the Musical on Broadway,” producer Eric Fellner said in a statement. “To see this story of a small boy from a small town in the North East of England achieve such enormous success and receive such an incredible response from the musical theatre capital of the world has been hugely rewarding. I join my fellow producers in expressing our gratitude to every member of the creative team and the Broadway company for their hard work and dedication to this show. Sadly, all great things come to an end and we look forward to working on Broadway again soon.”

Based on the 2000 Oscar-nominated film, Billy Elliot has played to 7.5 million people and has grossed $600,000,000 since opening in London in May 2005. “I’ve said it before and it remains true today, Billy Elliot has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my entire life — seeing this show produced on Broadway is a dream fulfilled,” composer Elton John said.  “I’m so proud of the brilliant young performers who have mastered the role of Billy on Broadway — their commitment and sheer talent has been the backbone of this production.”

Leave it to Kanye West to become the talk of the fashion world. The uber-successful rapper, who’s long had an affinity for women’s wear, took his appreciation to the next level by debuting a much-buzzed about Spring 2012 collection at Paris Fashion Week on Saturday, and the opinions are already starting to pour in.

With an audience that could very well double as a who’s-who of the fashion industry (Anna Wintour, Alexander Wang and Jeremy Scott were just some of the big names), Kanye presented a line comprising of plunging necklines, bandage dresses, and fur (lots of fur). Thus far, the reviews have been mixed. A couple of excerpts below: READ FULL STORY »

Guest blogger Joshua Malina: Top 7 reasons 'Sports Night' will never get 'Arrested Development'-style revival

Last night I signed into my primary news source and was made aware by multiple tweets that Arrested Development — Mitch Hurwitz’s groundbreakingly kick-ass comedy — was slated to return to the air after a five-year absence. I’m delighted at the prospect, though I take it all with a grain of salt. Announcements of the show’s return have now run longer than the original series. Still, here’s hoping it happens.

On the heels of the A.D. bombshell, folks have been tweeting me throughout the day asking when they can expect the return of Sports Night, Aaron Sorkin’s proto-dramedy about the hijinks, hilarity, and heartbreak that go on behind the scenes of a cable sports show. The answer — in brief — is “Never.” Don’t get me wrong. I’d sign up now. I mean what am I doing today? I’m writing this. Hell, I’d be open to discussing a second season of Big Shots, or a third episode of Imagine That. I’m not the problem, people. But I have aggregated some of the issues that prevent a Sports Night reunion. Herewith, the top 7 reasons it’ll never happen:  READ FULL STORY »
