'Glee': Who would you vote for in the senior class president race? -- PHOTO

*Bombshell on last night’s Glee!

[Spoilers for last night's Glee ahead!]

So, last week we learned that Kurt was aiming to become class president. (See Abby West’s recap here.) But his world was quickly shaken when Brittany realized she was a unicorn of ambition in her own right and joined the race. And this week, Rachel threw her (sequined) hat into the race!

This race is heating up, people!

Now, as much as I love the other two — and Brittany’s dance to Girls (Who Rule The World)” — was worth a million votes alone, I have to say I’m on Kurt’s side here. He needs this. After losing the part he longed for in the school play and fighting bullies last year, he needs some power. No more helpless, weepy Kurt. The man in this amazing campaign poster demands respect, and it’s time Kurt gets his.

Also, this poster is well deserving of the title, if you ask me: READ FULL STORY »

Contrarian Corner takes on 'New Girl' wedding episode: Something borrowed, something blew

So far, the first season of New Girl has ruined Dirty Dancing, “Bust a Move,” bangs, and my faith in human beings. And last night, the hit Fox sitcom added something else I love on that list: Weddings. You can read about last night’s episode in Lanford Beard’s regular recap of New Girl here, but based on EW’s comments sections, there’s a large portion of readers not being served every Wednesday morning by  a traditional recap. I’m talking about those of you who have declared a loud “I Don’t (Get It)” to Zooey Deschanel’s quirky new series. Well, dear friends who find yourselves watching the series despite your absolute hatred for it, welcome to the Contrarian Corner. Like a disgusting and dangerous Long Island Ice Tea made more attractive with a perky pink umbrella, New Girl is a show we cannot help but return to from week to week, despite the fact that it only leaves us with a headache and immediate regret. So let’s convene, air our grievances, and slap our foreheads while groaning under our breath, “It’s (sigh) Jess.” READ FULL STORY »

The idea of a future without 'The Simpsons': Woo hoo or Boo-urns?

The-Simpsons

Before we get into a discussion about the news that after 23 years on the air, the future of The Simpsons is up in the air, let me tell you with full disclosure: I’m on a classic Simpsons trivia team. (Go Team Bake ‘Em Away, Toys!… Go Apple! Go Orange! Go Banana!) Yes, I’m one of those kind of Simpsons nerds. I have special place in my heart for the ’90′s era of The Simpsons, and a place in my brain where basic knowledge should reside, but Simpsons trivia does instead. (Or maybe that’s just a crayon?)

That said, The Simpsons could soon become a part of the past, for all of us. READ FULL STORY »

It's Meet the Parents Night on 'Glee'

Categories: Glee, Television

Tonight’s “Asian F” episode is full of revelations, as we come to see Mercedes and Mike Chang in a new light. We also get to meet Mike’s parents as well as Emma’s, and let’s just say that so much becomes clear.

The auditions for the school play heat up as both Mercedes and Rachel go after the lead. Mercedes’ new man is instrumental in what ends up being a really strong episode for her, while Mike’s need to confront his family’s academic pressure and where it fits in with what he wants to do makes this a standout episode for the guy who was once “the other Asian.” Meanwhile, Emma’s parents share their own unique viewpoint and we get a glimpse into at least some of the roots of her issues.

Talk about the episode below, then come back later tonight for Tim Stack’s interview with Amber Riley about Mercedes’ story arc, and tomorrow morning for my full Glee ”Asian F” recap!

If the ratings weren’t a sign that The Playboy Club wasn’t long for this world, perhaps NBC choosing not to air a promo for next week’s episode after last night’s episode was. In any event, below, we pay tribute to this fall’s first fallen show.  READ FULL STORY »

Who should be the voice of 'Mr. Ed: The Movie'?

There’s a Mr. Ed movie likely coming to a theater near you, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Fox 2000 — which is still swimming in Alvin and the Chipmunks money — has acquired feature film rights to the beloved-when-not-watched-in-decades TV show about a talking horse, according to Variety. Let’s try to minimize the damage to our frontal lobes by asking the important question: Who should voice Mr. Ed? Below, a few of our humble suggestions — write your own in the comment boards!

Zach Galifianakis: Think Bill Murray doing Garfield. All great comedians deserve a nice paycheck every now and then, and letting Galifianakis do his free-association-riffing thing could be pretty darned funny. (Three words: Horse. Playing. Piano.) READ FULL STORY »

Which 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Little Mermaid' scenes do you want to see in 3-D RIGHT NOW?

The news that Disney will re-release Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid (along with Pixar’s Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc.) in 3-D over the next two years has me so giddy and excited that I’ve almost yanked out all my sadly not flaming red Disney hair with my dinglehopper in anticipation of what an extra dimension can do for those Disney classics. So I think I’ll TAKE FIVE from the self-torture and present to you…

Five Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid scenes I want to see in 3-D RIGHT NOW: READ FULL STORY »

So are you disappointed by the iPhone 4S?

iPhone4S

For months, the rumor mill has been buzzing that Apple was preparing to introduce the iPhone 5. Excitement for the product skyrocketed when Apple CEO Tim Cook announced a special iPhone-themed summit. Earlier today, Cook and various other Apple luminaries who aren’t Steve Jobs took the stage to introduce a raft of granular reforms, before getting to the big news. On October 14, Apple will release the iPhone 4S, which comes with plenty of smaller updates and one big one: A function called “Siri” which allows you to talk to your iPhone and have it respond to you, Star Trek-style. It’s an interesting update, but early response to the announcement generally ran the gamut from “So, no iPhone 5″ to “Um, are you freaking kidding me!” (Apple shares slid a little after the presentation.)

It’s always hard to tell about a product’s long-term market potential based on short-term gut responses. But short-term gut responses are so much fun! So tell us, readers: How negative are your feelings about the iPhone 4S? Take the poll below: READ FULL STORY »
