Seth MacFarlane has a feud with Jon Stewart?

During the taping for tonight’s Piers Morgan, the muckraking Brit sprang questions about a never-revealed war of war of words between guest Seth MacFarlane and The Daily Show anchor Jon Stewart. According to Morgan’s crack investigators, Stewart called the Family Guy creator up in 2008 after MacFarlane lampooned Stewart for continuing to air The Daily Show during the 2007 Writers Guild strike. MacFarlane described Stewart as “angry” and himself both “shocked” and “frustrated” during the hour-long the telephonic ambush. He explained, “I think [Jon’s] response was ‘Who the hell made you the moral arbiter of Hollywood?’”

When Morgan noted, “There’s a certain irony in Jon Stewart ringing up and haranguing you for mocking him, isn’t there?” MacFarlane responded, “If I say yes, he’ll crucify me on his show for a year.” MacFarlane, who admitted he was outmatched by Stewart’s phenomenal debate skills, was surprised Morgan even knew about the altercation, saying, “My publicist has forbidden me to talk about this ever since it happened.” See MacFarlane’s full account of the events — plus Morgan’s insatiable baiting — after the jump. 'American Horror Story' starts tonight. Will you be watching the season's biggest love/hate TV show?

When I first watched the pilot for American Horror Story one week ago, I found myself possessed by an unsettling demon: Indecision. Did I love it? Did I hate it? The birth of bloody brilliance… or the crowning of something rank? Part of my agitation had to do with the frantic, feverish sensory experience crafted by Ryan Murphy, who co-created the show with his Glee collaborator Brad Falchuk. The pilot left me wrung out by its battery of shock images and strung out from its jittery editing schemes. The show’s not scary – it’s punishing. Which, actually, might be the point, the more I think about it. And I have thought a lot about American Horror Story over the past seven days. (I will be recapping the show, after all.) I’ve also watched the pilot three more times, and each time, I’ve enjoyed it more, and seen more in it. The matter is now settled in my mind: American Horror Story is my favorite new show of the fall season.

You may disagree. It’s certain that many of you will. READ FULL STORY »

Eddie Murphy in talks for 'Saturday Night Live'?

Ben Stiller is hosting Saturday Night Live this week, but the buzz heading into the weekend is that he might be joined by his Tower Heist co-star, Eddie Murphy, the biggest movie star that the sketch show ever produced. Nearly singlehandedly, Murphy maintained SNL‘s must-see status after Lorne Michaels left in 1980, and his four seasons — in which he played Gumby, Mr. Robinson, and James Brown — remain as dynamic a showcase as any performer’s in the show’s rich history. But since exiting the show for Hollywood millions in 1984, Murphy has returned to host only once. He couldn’t even be persuaded to appear at the show’s 25th anniversary party in 1999. George Clooney talks with TIME, jokes about why he cast Ryan Gosling in 'Ides of March': 'He was cheaper'

There are plenty of reasons to want to cast Ryan Gosling in a movie: He’s good-looking, charming, capable of driving ticket sales and stopping street fights (not simultaneously, although we wouldn’t be surprised), and, of course, inspiring Tumblers... the list goes on. But for The Ides of March director (and star) George Clooney, the decision to cast Gosling in his film came down to something much more basic: “He was cheaper,” Clooney quipped, responding to an audience member during a live 10 Questions interview with TIME’s Rick Stengel on Wednesday. “He hasn’t worked in awhile. I felt bad for him.”

During the sit-down, which also touched the star’s views on politics, advocacy, and the journalism industry, Clooney revealed that Gosling caught his attention early on. READ FULL STORY »

White jacket from 'Drive' available in November. Can I give the delivery guys a 5-minute window?

A lot of thoughts went through my head while I sat in theaters watching Drive [Mini Spoiler Alert!]: They ranged from This movie is awesome! to Wouldn’t it hurt your foot to kick in someone’s face? to even WOAH! There goes her head. There was one thought, though, that recurred throughout the film and has come back to me even now as I reminisce about Drive‘s finer moments: Ryan Gosling’s white scorpion jacket was totally sweet.

Shortly after seeing the film, I decided that the nameless “Driver,” a simultaneously savage and loveable stunt driver/vigilante, would be the perfect costume for Halloween 2011. READ FULL STORY »

Lady Gaga Lifetime movie: Please, God no!... (Okay, when will it air?)

Lady Gaga has a new album and a new duet partner — why not a new made-for-TV movie?

Sources tell EW that Lifetime plans to develop Fame Monster: The Lady Gaga Story, as originally reported by Deadline. Points for the title, Lifetime, but this unauthorized project sounds like a failure before takeoff. It’s based on the (unauthorized) book Poker Face: The Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga by New York Post scribe Maureen Callahan, and without Lady Gaga’s involvement, it’s likely the overcoming-obstacles montage is going to have nondescript pump-up music as opposed to, you know, one of her hits.

Now, Lifetime movies can go one of two ways: Either so bad it’s good (William and Kate) or so bad it’s horrific (pretty much everything else). Gaga clearly has an obsessively loyal fan base that’ll tune in out of curiosity, which I’m sure is what cable channel Lifetime is hoping. READ FULL STORY »

Submission2

Broadway’s biggest news this week was sad stuff: Tony-winner Billy Elliot will shut its doors on Jan. 8 after 1,304 performances. Yet there were some things to be happy about. Rumors that Newsies could be headed to Broadway gained some ground when producers confirmed that they had been approached by several NYC theater owners wanting to host the show. Ghost the Musical announced its U.S. debut date: April 23, 2012. Jesus Christ Superstar is returning to Broadway in March. Alicia Keys will be writing original music for December’s Stick Fly. And Alan Rickman gave EW.com readers a little taste of what it’s like to be one of his cast members in Theresa Rebeck’s upcoming Seminar. As for off-the Great White Way, our reviewers saw four shows. Read the highlights below (click on the titles for the full reviews). READ FULL STORY »

Kellie Pickler brings s'more laughter on her latest 'Ellen' appearance

I always make a point of catching The Ellen Degeneres Show when Kellie Pickler is the guest. Those two are a riot!

Yesterday, Kellie stopped by Ellen’s chatfest to promote her new country single “Tough” as well as her upcoming appearance on 90210. The results were hilarious.

After a playful chat about her marriage, her Minnesoooota mother-in-law, and her tendency to get easily startled, Kellie was treated to a “relaxing” chocolate spa facial by Ellen. The whole segment felt like a scene straight out of I Love Lucy.

Trust me, these clips will brighten up your day: READ FULL STORY »

The cat is back as Sean Young visits David Letterman

The last time Sean Young visited David Letterman, she was promoting 1993′s forgettable spoof, Fatal Instinct. So what has she been doing for the last 18 years? “Nothing,” Young said last night. That’s hardly true; her resume is full of credits since then, including recent stints on Skating With the Stars and Celebrity Rehab. But Young’s career as a leading lady went kaput after… well, after that weird Catwoman thing. Now 51, Young seized last night as an opportunity to tell Hollywood’s “big boys” that she’s ready to work again. Forget about that reputation that she’s difficult or even crazy. She can laugh at herself now! Sort of. Watch below: READ FULL STORY »

Kim Kardashian renews her wedding vows on 'Ellen,' and it's actually kinda sweet: Watch!

If you’re not planning on watching the TWO-NIGHT Kim Kardashian wedding special (All Right Reserved, E! Television Productions) that begins this Sunday, at least watch Kardashian renew her vows with husband of five weeks Kris Humphries on today’s Ellen DeGeneres Show. The vows DeGeneres wrote are hilarious, and, if you’re someone who’s never bothered to listen to Humphries speak, you might be surprised to find him charming and sweet. (He actually seemed moved hearing Kim start to say her fake vows — it’s like he’s actually in love!). Also, it’s fun to diagnose Kim’s short-term memory problem.  READ FULL STORY »
