Ben Stiller's 'SNL' promos: Thinking on top of the box -- VIDEO

This weekend, Ben Stiller is hosting Saturday Night Live, which may or may not boast a surprise cameo from Eddie Murphy. So while Murphy might not be feeling the SNL love enough to give us another Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood (hey, we can dream), it looks like there will still be plenty of love in the air in Studio 8H. At least, based on the promo videos embedded below, there is between Stiller and Jason Sudeikis. Will the Tower Heist star — and musical guest Foster the People — steal your heart away this weekend? 'Hunger Games': Check out my District 5 badge! -- FIRST LOOK

Yesterday, my colleague Kate Ward bemoaned the fact that she still had yet to receive her District 5 badge from the country of Panem, i.e. the totalitarian nation at the center of The Hunger Games, Lionsgate’s wildly anticipated adaptation of the first book in Suzanne Collins’ wildly popular trilogy. To promote the film the titular games, Lionsgate The Capitol of Panem has put up a website at which visitors can register for one of the country’s 12 districts; this month, the site has started doling out those badges one District at a time, as well as the District’s corresponding Facebook page featuring the District’s unique seal representing that District’s specialty trade. (How many times can one say District in one sentence… District?) So far we’ve had mining (District 12), grain (District 9), textiles (District 8), lumber (District 7), and masonry (District 2).

And now EW can reveal the seal — as well as my specialized badge — for, yup, District 5. (Suck it, Ward!) [Ed. note: Save the trash talk for the Cornucopia.] This particular District has remained mysterious to many Hunger Games fans, since the most we’ve known about it was the mysterious female tribute in the 74th Hunger Games was nicknamed Foxface by District 12 tribute Katniss Everdeen. So what is District 5′s industry? Check out the badge and the full seal below to find out! READ FULL STORY »

Mourning Steve Jobs: On the scene at the Fifth Avenue Apple store

The Fifth Avenue Apple Store in Manhattan, famously capped with a massive glass cube, is currently covered a white shroud, as if in mourning for the passing of the company’s co-founder and former CEO, Steve Jobs. The cube is actually undergoing renovations, swapping out dozens of smaller glass panels that make up its surface for just 15 larger ones, described with Jobs-ian panache as “seamless” by signs out front. In a way, it serves as a perfect tribute to Jobs’ famously relentless pursuit of elegance, quality, and thoughtful precision.

The other tribute to Jobs growing outside the Fifth Ave. Apple Store is neither elegant nor precise, but I imagine Jobs would still be deeply moved by the spontaneous shrine of flowers, written tributes, and lots and lots of McIntosh apples. (A few even had a bite taken out of them.) READ FULL STORY »

Glee star Harry Shum Jr., who plays Mike Chang on the Fox hit, took to his blog to mourn the loss of Apple founder Steve Jobs and reveal his interesting connection to the Apple genius: Shum Jr. was a silhouetted dancer in one of the first iPod commercials. Writes the actor, “I was asked to do a test commercial shoot for an Apple product which didn’t mean much to me at the time. Some music player that holds all your songs. Sounded cool to me and I never gave up an opportunity to work especially with the possibility of it turning into a national commercial. Coolest job I did in that time. Just for the fact that I was chosen for my dancing and just my dancing alone. It was a silhouette of me so looks and race didn’t play into it unlike most of the jobs I would audition for.” READ FULL STORY »

Steve Jobs in 2005: 'Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life.'

As we mourn the loss of Steve Jobs, let’s look back at the wit and wisdom from his June 2005 commencement speech at Stanford University. “I never graduated from college,” Jobs acknowledged from the outset, “and this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to a college graduation.”

Through three stories in 15 minutes, he explained the twists and turns of his amazing life, contemplated the hand of fate in it all, considered his own mortality, and even got in a jab at Windows. “No one wants to die,” Jobs conceded while discussing about his pancreatic cancer diagnosis in 2004. “And yet… death is very likely the single best invention of life. It is life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new.” He also advised the graduates, “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life … Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” Watch Jobs’ eloquent speech after the jump. READ FULL STORY »

'Modern Family': Has Toddler Lily won your heart yet?

Now that the new season of Modern Family is well underway, it’s time we took a moment to discuss the show’s newest addition: Toddler Lily (a.k.a Aubrey Anderson-Emmons).

Show creators Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd have wisely refrained from shining too bright a spotlight on the newest member of the Pritchett clan — possibly because she inexplicably aged two years during the summer hiatus, but who cares when the show is this good. In last night’s episode, she showed up only briefly to ask Daddy Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) for some raisins, forcing him to confront the dirty kitchen left by Daddy Cam (Eric Stonestreet).

We got our best look at Lily 2.0 in episode 2, where her hostile attitude towards a new baby drove the Cam/Mitchell plotline. READ FULL STORY »
