You'll lose if you try to dress as a winning Charlie Sheen for Halloween. What should you be instead?

sheen-webcam

Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and even Pinhead have got nothing on this hell-raiser. Just look at him — high on tiger blood, wrath, and headlines, Charlie Sheen is one of the most frightening(ly hilarious?) figures of 2011. So, as hard as it is to resist being Sheen this Halloween (it even rhymes!), you must not impersonate the “winning” walking punchline this holiday. Why? Well, it’s impossible to score when when you choose the most unoriginal costume on Oct. 31. And, in 2011, Sheen will be unoriginal. In fact, according to CNNMoney, the former Two and a Half Men star is the top choice for costumes this year. READ FULL STORY »

Stephen Colbert remembers Steve Jobs: Thanks for the memories (and the sweet freebies!)

In the coming days and weeks, there will be so many moving tributes dedicated to the great American innovator and Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who sadly passed away on Oct. 5 at the age of 56, after battling pancreatic cancer.

Stephen Colbert included. During Thursday night’s installment of The Colbert Report, the host paid honor to Jobs, who he described as, “a visionary who changed the way we use computers, listen to music, communicate, and stay awake in meetings.” But, Jobs was more than just that to Colbert — he was the man who gave him the chance to be cooler than Jay-Z. (According to his Are You Cooler Than Jay-Z iPod app, though, he’s not.) While there countless words of gratitude and praise for Jobs, Colbert may have summed up it best when he read an email that the Apple co-founder wrote to him after debuting the iPad at the 52nd Annual Grammys: “Sweet! Thanks!” To which Colbert replied, perhaps on behalf of all of us, “Right back ‘atcha!”

'Snow White': So far, which of the two upcoming movies looks the fairest of them all?

Snow White: The classic fairytale so nice, Hollywood made it twice. It’s true: In 2012 moviegoers will have not one, but two re-imaginings of the timeless tale to choose from and already, some strong opinions about Tarsem Singh’s yet-to-be-titled version (starring, among others, Lily Collins, Armie Hammer, Julia Roberts, Sean Bean, and Nathan Lane) and Rupert Sanders’  Snow White and the Huntsman (with Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, and Ian McShane) are being formed. Over the summer, we got our first glimpse of Snow White and the Huntsman at Comic-Con and comments from EW.com readers ranged from “This looks fantastic!” to “Looks like a Tim Burton rip-off.” But now that we’ve seen what the other Snow White film looks like, it’s time to decide once and for all, which looks the fairest of them all? Sugar, spice and 'Real Steel': Why robots should be for girls (and moms) too.

real-steel

I’m not sure when exactly my 2-year-old daughter fell in love with robots. Maybe it was one of the thousand times when her dad has said, “Hey little girl, check out this cool robot! Don’t you love them?”

Traditional gender roles tell us, of course, that little girls like princesses and little boys are the ones who like robots, but I don’t see why that has to be so. READ FULL STORY »

Johnny Depp to possibly play Dr. Seuss in a live-action movie: The best pairing since 'Fox in Socks'?

Typically, when you hear the news that another Dr. Seuss movie may come to the big screen, you immediately begin to worry that a major piece of your childhood is about to get ruined again. (We did not like you, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Cat in the Hat. We did not like you and that is that.) This news, however, will have even the most devoted Dr. Seuss fans rhyming in delight.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johnny Depp will produce, and possibly star in, a live-action film about the life of Theodor Geisel. Or, as we all know him, the late, great Dr. Seuss. The project is being developed by Illumination Entertainment (which is currently in post-production on The Lorax) and Depp’s production company Infinitum Nihil. (EW reached out to Depp’s reps who were not immediately available for comment.)

How much do we love this idea? Let us count the ways. (Circus McGurkis 1, 2, 3!) Not only has Depp played a classic children’s author before (he was Peter Pan scribe J.M. Barrie in the Oscar-nominated Finding Neverland), but he and Dr. Seuss are a little bit like kindred spirits: Both have created iconic characters and both have brought twisty, colorful worlds to life with their craft. Heck, even Depp himself speaks and looks like a Dr. Seuss creation at times. READ FULL STORY »

Broadway's Zoe Kazan (Elia's granddaughter) on how to become an actor-slash-writer

Actress Zoe Kazan has appeared in some pretty heavy plays – A Behanding in Spokane, Come Back, Little Sheba, The Seagull — and now she’s written one. Part mystery, part family drama, We Live Here follows an academic clan in crisis during one rainy night in New England when secrets are spilled, an arm is bit, and many tears are shed. The actress-turned-playwright (a movie she penned, He Loves Me, is also in post-production) took some time recently to talk to EW about switching roles to write the drama, which stars Amy Irving and Drive’s Oscar Isaacs and opens at off Broadway’s Manhattan Theater Club on October 10th.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What came first for you, acting or writing?
ZOE KAZAN: I always wrote. My parents [screenwriters Nicholas Kazan and Robin Swicord] are writers, so it made a lot of sense. I was interested in acting professionally and started writing again to keep myself from getting bored when I was in between jobs or in a job that wasn’t interesting. It became a Band-Aid. Then eventually it was no longer a Band-Aid, it was a thing in itself.  READ FULL STORY »

'The Office': The gang has lotto dreams. Talk about the third episode here!

What would you do if you won the lottery? The Office gang grappled with that unlikely scenario in last night’s episode when — surprise! — they found out that the warehouse crew had won the lottery and all promptly quit Dunder Mifflin.

Does this mean the end of Madge? Matt? Other nameless warehouse guys whom I’ve grown fond of over the years? It certainly doesn’t mean the end of Darryl, who quit playing on the group entries once he was promoted. To add insult to massive injury, they won using the old standby numbers the warehouse gang had always used — Darryl’s birthday. Bru-tal. READ FULL STORY »

'The League': Seth Rogen gets down and dirty

The cast and crew of The League, FX’s raunchy comedy about a pack of dudes who compete in an intense fantasy football league, spent the whole summer answering questions about how an NFL work stoppage would effect their show. So it made perfect sense that its season 3 premiere was titled “The Lockout.” But last night’s kick-off wasn’t just memorable for its ironic twist on the traditional draft day episode; it finally introduced Dirty Randy, Rafi’s porn-scout pal who was the most intriguing sitcom non-character since Cosmo Kramer’s partner in crime, Bob Sacamano.

Ruxin (Nick Kroll) was just beginning to enjoy his reign as defending champ, and as always, he didn’t hesitate to rub it in. As a tribute to the great 1985 Chicago Bears squad, he recruited the star players from his fantasy roster to participate in a homemade music video, “The Shiva Bowl Shuffle.” Yes, the Shiva is officially back, banishing the poorly fashioned Dre trophy to the dustbin of history. Meanwhile, The Dre’s namesake, Andre (Paul Scheer), was forced to play the anti-Pied Piper of Chicago public transportation as punishment for finishing last in the league. If only that were the worst of his hazing.

Andre was also banned from attending the draft, and his frenemies couldn’t resist one last gag of hiring a crew to film a porn in his loft apartment. Enter Dirty Randy, i.e. Seth Rogen, the pun-minded filmmaker behind the adult classic, Sh–ler’s List. READ FULL STORY »

'The Big Bang Theory': Raj gets a girlfriend! Who he can talk to!

As happy as I was to see Raj Koothrappali finally land himself a girlfriend on this week’s The Big Bang Theory, even if for one episode, I’m a tinge surprised it’s taken his friends over four seasons to realize they needed to fix Raj up with a deaf woman. Well, really they need to get him into some comprehensive therapy for his selective mutism — some hypnotism wouldn’t hurt either. But, still, finding someone who physically can’t hear Raj’s romantic verbal diarrhea seems like a pretty obvious notion to me.  READ FULL STORY »
