What are YOUR picks for the three best (and worst!) new shows of the season?

American-Horror-Story

A few weeks into the new TV season, we’ve already seen a few new shows fall victim to low ratings and overall stink. (Sorry, Free Agents.) But on the glass half-full side, we’re also slowly learning which shows have a strong pulse, and subsequently — if you’re one of those who waits to get invested — which ones we should be jumping on board.

Admittedly, that’s still a crap load of shows to sift through. Personally, three have floated to the top of my must-watch list (at least, this is the standing until Once Upon a Time premieres in two weeks): American Horror Story, 2 Broke Girls, and Hart of Dixie. My most controversial pick is easily Dixie — and not because Rachel Bilson’s microscopic shorts are basically illegal in Alabama. But it’s not a critically adored new show and hasn’t garnered huge ratings. (It has, however, gotten a full season pick up. WOO!) Whatever. I like it. And that’s the attitude we all have to adopt when talking about our new faves. Hold the torch even when it seems like there’s no one else who likes it. Spoiler: There’s always someone else.

That’s my official pep talk. Now, ‘fess up. What are your three favorite shows of the season, readers? READ FULL STORY »

Glenn Beck to solve the economic crisis with patriotic clothing line. Watch the video to fix America!

Let’s begin on a positive note: A small business that sustains a healthy working environment and creates jobs with fun things like, you know, benefits and living wages in this terrible economy is undoubtably a good thing. That being said, there is absolutely no reason why we can’t poke a little fun at Glenn Beck’s all-American clothing line. Beck may have left Fox News back in June, but don’t ever think that the puffy professor of paranoia would exit without a contingency plan in place for his “fix America one town at a time” project. First there was the online video network GBTV, and it looks like sartorial patriotism is the next stop on Beck’s express train to a better Amurika!  READ FULL STORY »

Report: Clay Aiken, Victoria Gotti, Debbie Gibson and Teresa Giudice join 'Celebrity Apprentice'

If I were “Invisible,” I would sneak into the taping of season 5 of Celebrity Apprentice. Because not only have Cheryl Tiegs and Marco Andretti signed on to star in the next season of Donald Trump’s hugest-show-in-television-history-no-it’s-not-oh-well-let’s-pretend-anyway, but Celebrity Apprentice has reportedly attracted four more cast members: Debbie Gibson (totally rad!), Teresa Giudice (table-flippin’ awesome!), Victoria Gotti (bada bing!), and Clay Aiken (holy argyle!).

As a former Claymate — I was excommunicated five years ago after informing a close friend that, despite her gut feeling to the contrary, she likely would not end up marrying the American Idol runner-up — I don’t think I could be more excited if you told me Aiken planned to dress in a pimp outfit, sing “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” and make me believe that it’s really 2003 again. Rashida Jones has a nude streak in her

If you ever bump in to Rashida Jones at the Apple Store, be bold. But be careful not to confuse her for Fiona Apple or someone from Community, as people occasionally do. The Parks and Recreation star shared the blueprint to her heart with Playboy‘s readers in this month’s 20 Questions interview. Asked what she would do if she could by anonymous for one day, she catered to the publication’s male readership. “Streaking through a large crowd has always been a secret fantasy of mine,” she said. “Disneyland would be fun. Or maybe just showing up at the Apple Store naked and picking up an iPod shuffle and pretending nothing was wrong or different.” READ FULL STORY »

Sony's PlayStation Network hacked again

Categories: Tech, Videogames
PS3

Earlier this year, Sony’s PlayStation Network was infiltrated, and the resulting mega-hack shut the service down for days and saw millions of customers’ personal information exposed. A presumably maladjusted teenager was later arrested in London in connection to the crime. Today, Sony announced that the service had been hacked again…but this time, they were ready. According to CNN, Chief Information Security Officer Phillip Reitenger notified PSN users that the company had detected an attempt to access user’s information. Only one-tenth of one percent of users were affected — about 93,000, which is certainly a large number, but is admittedly considerably less than “millions.” No credit card information was stolen. Reitenger closed with a bit of advice: “We encourage you to choose unique, hard-to-guess passwords and always look for unusual activity in your account.” (Thanks, Mom.) READ FULL STORY »

Hey 'Revenge': What's the deal with that dog?

Revenge-VanCamp

Like many of us here in the EW offices, I’m completely and unashamedly hooked on Revenge. The ABC drama — starring Emily VanCamp as a young woman bent on avenging her father’s ruin — is full of fun twists, fancy rich people doing fun, fancy, rich people things, and, perhaps most importantly, displays the utter awesomeness that is Madeleine Stowe. But! There is a small nagging issue that has been driving me more and more crazy with every viewing: What is the deal with that dog, Sam? READ FULL STORY »

Best and worst dance movies you've seen in the theater?

footloose-remake

Footloose hits theaters Friday, and, if you’re like me, you’re coming to terms with the fact that you are going to see it (if only to have an informed opinion on EW‘s Lisa Schwarzbaum giving it an A-.) There will be those who go for nostalgia’s sake, but a lot of us, I suspect, have a history of not being to resist dance movies in theaters. So think back: What are the best and worst that you’ve paid to see? I’ll start by listing the ones I remember off the top of my head, favorite to least favorite. READ FULL STORY »

Ashton Kutcher's strange recent tweets: What does it all mean?!

When talk of a possible Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore split sparked a few weeks ago, the couple’s silent Twitter accounts only fueled the rumor mill flame.

Since then, people have been buzzing about what they are posting on the social networking site. And since neither party has tweeted anything along the lines of, say, “It’s over! I’m free! So long, famous significant other!”, followers have been chomping at the bit to find anything that resembles a clue about the status of their relationship. Because, what else is there to do? Get a hobby? Psh. READ FULL STORY »

Evidence suggests existence of Kraken, Yeti. What else is real?

kraken

Grab your crossbows and holy water. Monster hunting season is officially open.

Yesterday, news broke that paleontologists had discovered what they believed to be the lair of the Kraken at a Nevada state park. Then today, Russian officials announced they had “indisputable evidence” that Yeti — or Abominable Snowmen — exist and are living in the Kemerovo region.

Skeptics were quick to pooh-pooh the findings (typical) in both instances, saying that a tuft of gray fur, bent branches, and a partial footprint is less than iron-clad proof of Bigfoot’s existence, and that a Nevada cave filled with arranged bones may have another explanation besides a giant, genius, super octopus. But who needs the skeptics? Haters gonna hate right? READ FULL STORY »

Google goes Gumby in honor of creator Art Clokey's 90th birthday

If you’re wondering why Google is featuring Gumby on its homepage today, look no further. Today would have been the 90th birthday of Gumby creator Art Clokey. The interactive stop motion homepage doodle features the best-known characters from Clokey’s creation, which has lived in pop culture for more than five decades. “Art Clokey was an innovator in the field of animation and also a compassionate, inspiring artist,” said Google doodler Sophia Foster-Dimino. “We were excited to work with the incredibly talented animator Anthony Scott to produce this doodle, and we hope that it brightens your day!”
