Don't worry Minka Kelly, the Bravermans still need you over on 'Parenthood'!

It’s hard to say, “Poor Minka Kelly!” (I mean, come on… seriously!) But, as any avid fan of Friday Night Lights can attest, we tend to keep an eye out for our beloved Dillon natives. (In case you were wondering what all that excessive gawking at Taylor Kitsch was about. Just keepin’ tabs on Timmy Riggins, is all.)

Still, it was hard not to feel a little bad for “poor Minka Kelly” when it was announced today that her new series, ABC’s remake of Charlie’s Angels, has been canceled. And just a few weeks after her split from longtime boyfriend Derek Jeter, no less. But, let’s not feel too sorry for Lyla Garrity for too long (because, seriously, come on). Because I’m pretty sure the Bravermans would still love to have Kelly back as Max’s behavioral aide Gaby over on Parenthood. READ FULL STORY »

Is Rob Pattinson punk enough for a Green Day movie?

The new Pop-Up Video isn’t just for music nostalgia anymore. A recent episode of the resurrected VH1 staple featured Green Day’s “21 Guns,” and the bubbled-up footnote that Billie Joe Armstrong once named Rob Pattinson as his top choice to play the lead in the cinematic adaption of the American Idiot musical proved enough to fire up the Internet today. To be accurate, it seems as if Armstrong told Spinner.com back in 2009 that Pattinson and Ellen Page were the perfect couple to play Christian and Gloria, the lead characters from their followup album, 21st Century Breakdown. “He’s a good actor. There’s still more to come with that kid,”he said.

But no matter. Two years later, Pattinson remains a pretty solid choice for either role. READ FULL STORY »

'Footloose' Redux: Which is better?

Footloose-Bacon-Kenny

It’s odd that we live in a world that needs two Footlooses. (Footlai?) Still, love it or loathe it, Footloose 2.0 arrives in theaters today, inviting a whole new generation of movie-goers to kick off their Sunday shoes.

While the 1984 original is hardly a perfect film, New-Footloose has some hefty shoes to fill. The older, Kevin Bacon-starring version has managed to angry dance its way into a pantheon of immortal ’80s movies and our hearts. So, with that in mind we thought we’d compare the two to see which film is Foot-looser, and which is Foot-loser. (Read Lisa Schwarzbaum’s review here.)

Kenny vs. Kevin: New Footloose is about as close to a shot-for-shot remake as you can get, so it’s easy to see where the similarities and differences lie. READ FULL STORY »

'The No Doctor Cop Lawyer Show': Why Batman is the best superhero

Batman-Begins

Who is Batman? Is he Christian Bale’s gravelly growl, Adam West’s non sequitur one-liners, George Clooney’s nipples? The answer is all of these things and much more. The video game Batman: Arkham City hits stores next week and so we at The No Doctor Cop Lawyer Show decided to dedicate our latest episode to explaining why we consider the Caped Crusader to be the greatest superhero. For those of you who don’t have the time to watch our well-reasoned arguments, this video sums them up rather succinctly. READ FULL STORY »

This Week on Stage: Samuel L. Jackson makes his Broadway debut

This week’s biggest opening — and best EW review — may belong to the Samuel L. Jackson/Angela Bassett two-hander The Mountaintop, but our critics also saw four other productions in New York and California. Read the highlights from all five reviews below (click on the bolded title for the full write-ups).

Man and Boy: Correspondent Keith Staskiewicz was captivated by Frank Langella’s “towering performance” as a ruthless financier whose crumbling empire forces him to reconcile with his son in this Depression-set Broadway revival. READ FULL STORY »

PopWatch Confessional: What TV shows make you feel like an 'old spinster'?

Keith-Morrison

In the season premiere of Happy Endings a couple weeks ago, Penny (Casey Wilson) was convinced that her new condo had the “spinster curse” when two “old lady” TV shows, The Good Wife and The View, mysteriously showed up on her DVR queue. I wasn’t totally convinced those were old lady shows. I mean, I’m 25, and I DVR those shows! The Good Wife is just good TV, and I just give myself the option to watch The View in case there’s some crazy Hasselbeck news. Plus, I’m one of the few EW staffers who loves New Girl, a show made for my demographic!

But then I reexamined my queue. I realized I have an awful lot recording on Friday nights (Kitchen Nightmares), and a bunch of shows way more spinster-y than The Good Wife (The Biggest Loser). And though I don’t like admitting this to anybody, I look forward to Dateline Friday all week. READ FULL STORY »

Kelsey Grammer: 'Real Housewives' was a 'parting gift' for ex-wife Camille

Categories: Real Housewives

While promoting his new series Boss Down Under, Kelsey Grammer had some unflattering things to say about his ex-wife Camille. When anchors on Australian news Sunrise TV asked Kelsey about Camille’s airing of his dirty laundry on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Grammer offered a terse “it’s bound to be what they do.” But his next statements seemed to show a lingering hostility for his ex. “In my mind that [show] was my parting gift to her after a very difficult marriage and a very difficult decade,” Grammer . “I thought maybe, ‘So long! Here’s a little present for you.’” Check out the full video here. READ FULL STORY »

Steven Seagal sworn in as a Texas deputy: Somehow, not the plot of his next movie.

Steven Seagal is no longer Above the Law. He is the law. (By the way, how is that not the tagline for the action-star-turned-sheriff’s A&E series Steven Seagal: Lawman?)

The 59-year-old, who has been a fully commissioned deputy with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana for 20 years, will now reportedly use his skills (he also has a 7th-degree black belt in Aikido) to work border control in Texas. (That’s right, Chuck Norris, he’s officially on your turf! Fight! Fight! Fight!)

According to the San Antonio Express, Seagal “was sworn in this week as the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office newest deputy. The sheriff’s office said he’ll be working full time to help secure the U.S.-Mexico border.” READ FULL STORY »

It seems that finicky iPhone users have gotten over the disappointment they expressed after Apple revealed its plans for the improved iPhone 4S — and not a revolutionary iPhone 5. Across the globe today, thousands of people lined up to purchase the new 4S, the last gadget developed under the reign of the late Steve Jobs. In fact, Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak was the first in line at the Apple Store in Los Gatos, Calif. “[Waiting in line overnight] has meaning… ” said Wozniak, who admitted that he could just as easily get iPhones delivered to his home. “This is just my way of recognizing it. I want to be part of this.” READ FULL STORY »

'Real Housewives of New Jersey' reunion preview: 'You're the devil!'

The ladies entered this season of the Real Housewives of New Jersey like lions, and they obviously had no intention of going out like lambs. With an 11th-hour flair-up caused by Housewife Teresa Giudice’s trash-talking in her latest book Fabulicious!, the women of Franklin Lakes — even usually diplomatic Caroline Manzo (pictured right) — went into the two-part finale on decidedly bad terms. After learning that Teresa’s sister-in-law Melissa Gorga, with whom she’s skirmished all season, was in touch with former Housewives nemesis Danielle Staub, Teresa spits, “You’re the devil! I’m, like, lookin’ at The Exorcist right now!” See the diabolically good preview after the jump.
