Lady Gaga makes Bill Clinton blush: on the scene at the Clinton concert

While Lady Gaga didn’t quite go as far as taking the stage in a stained blue dress while smoking a cigar, she did let the sexual energy fly former President Bill Clinton’s way when she performed for him Sunday night at the star-studded “A Decade of Difference: A Concert Celebrating 10 Years of the William J. Clinton Foundation” at the Hollywood Bowl, making the former president blush while wife Hillary Clinton and daughter Chelsea laughed on.

“Bill, I’m having my first real Marilyn moment,” Gaga said to Clinton, referring to when Marilyn Monroe sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy. “I always wanted to have one and I was hoping that it didn’t involve an accident with some pills and a strand of pearls, but here we are.” A visibly embarrassed but obviously amused Clinton looked to his wife on his right then to his beaming daughter on his left (a big Gaga fan, we hear), who were both smiling and laughing as Clinton’s face turned red. “Tonight, I’m on the edge with you,” Gaga said to Clinton before launching into “The Edge of Glory.”

Gaga (whom Ellen Degeneres introduced by saying, “This next performer needs no introduction” and then literally walked off the stage with no further introduction) made the Clintons squirm further in their box seats down front when she turned her hit “Bad Romance” into “Bill Romance.” READ FULL STORY »

Anna Faris hosts the Halloween episode of 'Saturday Night Live': Yep, it was scary, alright.

Anna-SNL-2

For 37 years, Saturday Night Live has been considered a New York City institution. Calling the famous Rockefeller Center home, the show has given us some of comedy’s most iconic figures. SNL often takes pride in their Big Apple status by making in jokes that won’t quite have the same effect on someone outside of the New York metropolitan area. In fact, they did so a few times during last night’s episode: There was a nod at Mayor Bloomberg, a reference to Carmel’s 777 car service, and a jab at Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez. But SNL didn’t do New York, nor its host Anna Faris, much justice at all last night. Heck, a Canuck by the name of Drake pretty much took over the whole thing.

Opening the show with a New York-centric skit with Fred Armisen as Mayor Bloomberg (who doesn’t so much look like him, but simply exaggerated his monotone drawl), discussing the ongoing battle to keep Occupy Wall Street at Zuccotti Park. And while the bit got some pandering woos (Armisen’s Bloomberg declared “New York sets the trends and the rest of the world follows” regarding the other OWS protest that have cropped up in other cities), there were some out-of-place jokes about the cigarette ban and the city’s grime. Live from New York it’s… 2005?

So maybe it was going to have to be up to Faris, who was returning to host SNL for the second time in her career, to bring it all back to present day. READ FULL STORY »

Anna Faris hosts tonight's 'Saturday Night Live': Talk about it here!

SNL-Farris

Okay, so the disappointing What’s Your Number? didn’t exactly add up to box office gold for Anna Faris. That doesn’t mean we still can’t count on the actress for a good laugh. (Hey, we didn’t declare her as one of the 25 Funniest Actresses in Hollywood for no good reason.)

That’s why were not letting her turn in that particular romantic comedy get in the way of our excitement about Faris hosting tonight’s Saturday Night Live. Because Faris, when given the right material, is a fun, fearless, and refreshing comedic gem. Sound like a certain other actress who recently killed it as SNL host? While the SNL writers didn’t particularly give last week’s host Ben Stiller much to work with, here’s hoping they up the ante once more for Faris. But will they play to her usual strength of playing a dopey but lovable ditz (i.e. The House Bunny, Scary Movie, Smiley Face) or will they give her material more range? (Something she most definitely has.)

If you’re tuning in for tonight’s episode, which will also feature rapper Drake (pictured with Faris and SNL all-star Jason Sudeikis) making his debut as a Saturday Night Live musical guest, be sure to stop by here and post your thoughts on the show as it’s happening. Are you hoping to see Faris play the straight woman or go for pratfalls? And speaking of Pratts, are you also sort of hoping her equally hilarious hubby Chris will swing by for a cameo, too? Share in the comments section below and remember to check back in later tonight to give your opinion on the show. A full recap will be up on Sunday morning.

Daniel Radcliffe makes fans 'Scream' at 'Harry Potter' tribute -- SNEAK PEEK

Categories: Harry Potter, Movies

When I say, “Harry,” you say, “Potter”: Harry! … Harry! Last night, the magical Daniel Radcliffe dropped by New York’s Lincoln Center to film a special Potter tribute for Spike TV’s upcoming 2011 Scream Awards. Cheering muggles piled in and led chants for The Boy Who (Played Harry Potter And) Lived. Accepting the Ultimate Scream and Best Fantasy Actor Awards (presented by Samuel L. Jackson), Radcliffe thanked all his fans for “the most incredible 10 years of my life on Harry Potter.” As an afterthought, he pointed out one fan in attendance, enthusing, “And that man there… has got the best Hagrid costume on I have ever seen, so well done, sir!”

Get a sneak peek of the event and see the Hagrid in question below…

'Say Yes to the Dress: The Big Day': Should this show stick to dresses?

Categories: Television
Say-Yes-To-Dress

I will never understand why people feel the need to mess with a perfectly good thing.

Last night, Say Yes to the Dress took viewers outside the walls of Kleinfeld’s and into, erm, New Jersey for the show’s first-ever making-of-the-wedding special.

We followed plus-sized bride Kelly Miller, who we first met on season one of Say Yes to the Dress: Big Bliss. Many, including Kelly herself, would call the bride featured on last night’s special overbearing and a lot to handle. That definitely factored into my distaste for this wedding special, but it was far from the only reason. READ FULL STORY »

'Supernatural' react: Were you hoping Dean would confess to Sam?

Supernatural

Order in the court!

This week’s episode of Supernatural took us to the trial of Dean Winchester, where the brother was forced by the Egyptian god Osiris to confront the guilt he’s constantly battling. The punishment for being found guilty? Death by appropriate means. (The “Michael Vick” victim was mauled by ghost doggie and the man who killed people 30 years ago in a convenience store robbery was shot by the ghosts of the people he killed.) So, in order to avoid the harsh sentence, Sam stepped up and called upon his pre-law skills (key word: pre) and his knowledge of The Good Wife to help Dean out of his predicament. But Osiris came to the trial well armed. His first witness? A blast from supernatural past… READ FULL STORY »

'How I Met Your Mother': Do Ted and the Slutty Pumpkin (Katie Holmes!) look oddly good together?

HIMYM-Holmes

I was pretty skeptical about Katie Holmes coming on to How I Met Your Mother as a guest star — and was not sure how I felt about her taking on the iconic role of the Slutty Pumpkin. But behold the photo to your left, PopWatchers. As you might have guessed from the headline, I sort of love this picture of Ted and Her Sluttiness (<Can we please use this?) from the Oct. 31 episode.

I think it’s a combination of her Joey-esque haircut and her giant smile that won me over in this pic. Suddenly, I’m pretty excited about meeting the Slu…erm..Naomi.

What about you readers? Are you excited we’re about to meet this incredibly important person from HIMYM mythology? Do you predict it will be all you hoped it would be?

Contrarian Corner takes on Terrence Malick's 'Tree of Life': My head hurts

Last week, I wrote a review of Terrence Malick’s latest star-studded art film, The Tree of Life. I didn’t like it. Actually, I kind of hated it. And for my sins, some ew.com commenters tarred me “a philistine”, “a dips—,” and “dense”. Which I’m totally fine with, by the way (he said, reaching for the Kleenex). Seriously, I knew when I wrote my review that I was in the minority on the film — its 84 percent Rotten Tomatoes positive rating proved that much. Still, watching Malick’s admitedly easy-on-the-eyes epic felt like the Emperor’s New Clothes to me. In the end, for me at least, its ravishing, museum-quality images added up to a big fat goose egg. Maybe you agree with me. Maybe you think I’m a dips—, too. Either way, let’s air this sucker out in the judgement-free confines of this week’s installment of the Contrarian Corner.

Let me start off by saying that I have nothing personally against Terrence Malick. READ FULL STORY »

Kelsey Grammer in 'Boss' is TV's latest bad good guy

Put all thoughts of Frasier Crane out of your head. Kelsey Grammer’s latest character, the manipulative, seething Chicago mayor Tom Kane, is one nasty fellow. In the show’s premiere episode — which doesn’t air until next week, but can be watched online here — he proves to be ruthless, violent, and monomaniacal, a lot closer to Sideshow Bob than Crane. Personally, Grammer’s performance was arresting enough to draw me in, even as I was perturbed by the character, which sets him up as another possible entry in television’s growing gallery of nasty protagonists. I feel like at some point, main characters used to be lovable, or at the very least not downright evil, but increasingly shows seem comfortable placing them only a tiny hair to the left of the hero-villain line.
