Justin Timberlake explains to David Letterman why he hasn't done a musical: Watch!

On last night’s Late Show, David Letterman asked guest Justin Timberlake why, if he idolizes Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Gene Kelly, he hasn’t done a musical. Turns out, it’s because he doesn’t like spontaneously bursting into song, which, of course, he and Dave then did. Sort of. Watch the clip below. Check out the full interview here. It ends with more singing. Timberlake is promoting his new film In Time, and, together with Dave, he also explained how characters in that futuristic world transfer time to one another by physically grasping forearms. “If I’m on top, I’m taking time, and if your on top, you’re taking time,” Timberlake said. The audience giggled inappropriately. “You know, I have found it to be true that if you’re top, you better take your time,” Letterman cracked. Love these two together.

I hope Justin Timberlake does more movies from now on. I’m looking forward to In Time. It’s going to be amazing to see Justin Timberlake and Cillian Murphy face off.

    Lol at Lettermans line!

Terrible, Hollywood, terrible. Timberlake’s roles should go to REAL actors who have worked hard in this industry rather than some mediocre eye-candy to get women to watch films. Aaron Paul should be toplining a Sci-Fi film such as “In Time” instead. Let Timberlake stick to making his “music”.

I’ll defer to Roger Ebert on Timberlake’s talents, saying, “Timberlake continues to demonstrate that he is a real actor, with screen presence. But after the precise timing and intelligence he brought to “The Social Network,” it’s a little disappointing to find him in a role that requires less. He has a future in the movies.” Maybe this role isn’t even good enough for Aaron Paul, who I agree, is a better actor.

I’m sure In Time will flop. I agree JT shouldn’t be given toplining roles in films. It seems like he kisses the right amount of @$$es to get where he’s at though and it probably rubs a lot of “REAL” actors the wrong way.
I agree that Aaron Paul is a MUCH better actor.

“If I’m on top, I’m taking time, and if your on top, you’re taking time,” Timberlake said. – grammatical error alert, EW!

He’ll do a musical once people stop asking him to do another album… which is ridiculous because people will never forget that he’s better at music than acting.

Really, He should just stick to music. Maybe a once-in-a-while small acting gig or SNL hosting to soar those oats.

Well, I don’t think he’s a bad actor, just not one I would normally pay to see in a lead role. I don’t really like his music, either. He’s getting better at acting, I guess, but still not necessarily a headliner in my opinion.
