Dozens of actresses desperate to cling to fame have increased their celebrity by posing for Playboy. So why does it seem so sad that Lindsay Lohan might be the next one to follow (birthday) suit?
TMZ reported today that the Mean Girls actress — who’s currently in trouble with the law — has agreed to pose for Hugh Hefner’s magazine for nearly $1 million. Her rep told EW he cannot confirm whether or not Lohan will indeed pose, but it wouldn’t be too surprising that a woman who already appeared partially nude for New York magazine would accept a big payday to star in another tasteful shoot. (UPDATE: X17, via People, spoke to Lohan’s mother, Dina, who said Lohan did indeed post for Playboy.) Yet, I can’t help but feel sad hearing this news.
I know plenty of former Lohan fans have grown tired of supporting the actress. She’s been given so many chances — why should we still feel for the actress and her problems? Still, while other fading stars’ jump to Playboy seemed like a natural progression (ex. Debbie Gibson, Shannen Doherty, Lisa Rinna), the thought that Lohan would pose for the magazine just feels desperate. And not in Gibson and Rinna’s dying-to-make-a-headline kind of way. Instead, it seems as though she’s dying to get a headline that doesn’t surround her legal troubles. (Lohan is facing jail time for a possible parole violation.) After all the bad PR surrounding the actress, she needs something to get fans and industry insiders to forget about her substance abuse and legal issues — it might seem like her nude body plastered on the page of a magazine is the only thing to do it. Even though Lohan has certainly made questionable choices in her life, how can you not have sympathy for someone with so few options?
Lohan, in recent years, has become a very public celebrity who has had no qualms talking about her problems with drug use. That’s admirable. But, should she pose for Playboy, she might be revealing simply too much. Her personal and familial problems have been on display for years — convincing her to put her body under the same microscope just feels like exploitation. Here’s hoping she decides to reject Playboy‘s offer and continue improving her image in community service, where she can stay far away from mean boys and girls’ prying eyes.

4) That EW devotes time and energy to covering her latest screw-up instead of devoting resources to any one of the hundreds, if not thousands of entertainment professionals who are doing things that are much more interesting
5) That Dina Lohan will attempt to turn this desperate cash-grab into something “artistic” and “beautiful”
6) That Michael Lohan’s tired @ss will have something to say as well

Lindsay has “so few options”? She has a ton of options. If she cleaned up her act, she’d have tons of offers.
Right! “So few options” that pay $1m, maybe, and keep her and her mother in the lifestyle to which they are accustomed, but “so few options” to take advantage of the publicity that she usually gets for anything she does, and to do something positive with that fame?
Ikr! She does have other options. She could not pose for Playboy. She could go away for a little while. And she could have done her community service and probation. But she didn’t. Also, there isn’t anything “admirable” about how she has handled her drug addiction and the media over the last couple of years. And she’s rarely been honest. So I don’t know what that’s all about.

Look I felt someone was out of line. I was typing quickly on my iPhone if that makes me look unintelligent to someone I’m not losing sleep over it. It is a little sad.. But what easier way could this “actress” make 1 million..? Plus, lets face it, she’s pretty damn hot. I’d buy a Playboy to see if she’s as hot as it appears.
She’s not hot anymore. Nice boobs and proportionate body alone does not make someone hot.. she’s tragic. Her face and teeth are all messed up, she’s saving her long hippie hair in an effort to attract men, and she’s paler than a ghost. Not to mention the druggie, dead-behind-the-eyes thing.

I agree. She is too desperate for money and attention, that no one is interested in her posing nude. Lindsay is not sexy, and is not vulnerable. She is nothing, but a uncaring jerk. I’d say within the next few years she’ll probably be dead, becasue everyone will have given up on her, and she’ll drink and drug her life away.
Playboy is expert at airbrushing, airbrush tanning, lighting, make up, angles, etc. She’s gonna look great. And she made a million dollars in 48 hours.

I’m sure that hag of a mother/manager put this together for her. It’s a lot of money and considering that she’s probably blown through (literally) a good deal of her wealth her mother must be desperate to keep her meal ticket marketable. Otherwise, mother may be actually be forced to get, like, a JOB! But it is sad because it’s a yet another sign of being on your way down in the industry. And yes, it will keep the photoshopper very busy with the too thin face, the stained teeth, the crackpipe stained fingers and the urine yellow hair.
I guess she got the bill from her personal bail bondsman and forgot how much she’s spent on bail in the past year. I’m surprised Dina isn’t trying to get a photo spread herself.

agreed. i can’t feel sorry for someone who wasted such enormous talent. all she had to do for like the last seven years was work a few weeks a year, show up to work on time, and show up sober. and she refused to even do that.
I read that like and thought WTH too!! This writer is way too soft on her and her lack of accountablity and responsiblity (when did LL admit to taking drugs?? She always blames others!!). I am not sad, she has had way too many chances. Maybe Kate Ward should realise that it’s people like her and her family who make excusesa and enable her that are a huge part of her problems.
She’s a drug addict. They don’t always do what makes sense to everyone else. Also, she never had the world at her fingertips. She had money and fame and a completely screwed up home life. I’m still pulling for her. If Robert Downey Jr. could get his act together after decades of drug abuse, hopefully she can do the same.
drug addiction is a serious problem indeed. but i have to agree with sorella. LL has an accountability and responsibility problem. i feel bad for addicts when they acknowledge that they have a problem, seek out help and try to get better, but continue to struggle with their problem as can happen. but LL has always and continues to blame everything and everyone but herself. she’s an adult now. she’s gotta take responsibility for her actions, including her addictions.
It’s easy to judge when you haven’t been there. Lindsey has been working since she was baby and most likely became burned out of the industry. A performer needs challenges to stay focused and driven.

I just can’t muster up much sympathy for this girl. I think she’s emotionally exhausted the planet. She will be used and exploited by the media (and use it in return) until she winds up dead. Then everyone will ACT all sorry and shocked about it. She is basically a spoiled brat. And while I think her parents are right up there on the list of WORST PARENTS, EVER!, at some point she needs to take responsibility for her own life. Or not.
