In the 1993 stop motion classic The Nightmare Before Christmas, Tim Burton, with the help of Jack Skellington and the other spooky residents of Halloween Town, wreaked havoc on Santa and, well, all of Christmas. Now, Burton will add his twisted touch to another holiday: Thanksgiving.
According to The New York Times, “the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will feature a new balloon designed by Mr. Burton.” The Oscar-nominated director, who told the media outlet “it was such a surprise to be asked” will contribute a character called B. Boy, a stitched-up blue character with a tragic back story (B. Boy is “Frankenstein’s monster-style, from the leftover balloons used in children’s parties”) that has Burton’s signature style. (Check out the model for the float above. How awesome does he look?!)
While it would have been great to have seen one of Burton’s classic characters like Beetlejuice (which, of course, would of had to have a marching band playing “Shake Senora” alongside it) or Corpse Bride marching with the likes of SpongeBob SquarePants and Snoopy (probably best he didn’t choose Mr. Oogie Boogie, though, as Santa is sort of the main event), I’m really loving B. Boy. Sure, he’ll be a bit of an outcast among the others (like I said, he has Burton’s signature touch), but it seems like if anyone could give some new life to the tradition, it’s this unconventional little guy.

I like the new balloon, but I have to agree that a Beetlejuice themed float/balloon would have been awesome if just for the music.

This article calls Tim Burton an “Oscar-winning director”. What did he win an Oscar for? I thought he was just nominated.
