Especially in this day and age, there are political celebrities who routinely say such outlandish things that you’re uncertain whether to take them seriously. So you can’t really blame Australian TV host Craig Reucassel for implying that Lord Christopher Monckton must be the next brilliant creation of Sacha Baron Cohen. For those of you unfamiliar with Monckton’s CV, he’s an outspoken climate-change skeptic who once worked for prime minister Margaret Thatcher and he has a history of controversial and polarizing statements. Like the time he said the Hitler Youth was a liberal Green organization. Or the time he suggested that all AIDS victims should be quarantined.
Watch as Reucassel marvels at Cohen’s artistic integrity during an interview with “Monckton” for his show, The Hamster Wheel. Cohen doesn’t break character in the slightest, and even pretends to be angered by Reucassel’s line of questioning and orders him to leave. What commitment!
How does “Monckton” compare to Cohen’s other characters, like Borat, Ali G, and Brüno? Are there current American political figures who you think might also really be fake characters? I mean, besides Donald Trump.

That is pretty amazing makeup–I wouldn’t have ever guessed that he was Baron-Cohen.
Just to be clear, that’s not really Cohen. It’s the real Monckton…they’re making fun of him.
I guess I should read more carefully. I guess I was just hopeful that Baron Cohen really did create a new character to parody jokers like this. There seems to be quite the tradition of Nazi-sympathizing in the British nobility.
I actually agree that people with AIDS should be quarantined. Why not just get rid of everyone that has it and it will no longer be a problem. It’s hard to feel sorry for them when they did it to themselves.

Yes they should because they will probably end up passing it on when they are older. Their parents are most likely poverty stricken deadbeats and usually the children follow the same path as the parents. Not our fault the parents are lowlifes and didn’t get an abortion when they had the chance.

I think it is because Jeff Labrecque really believes that Lord Monckton is Cohen. So he was taken in too. He should have done a little research and found out that Monckton is a real person. The joke wasn’t just on Monckton!
Yeah, probably needs to be made more clear. I’m an Aussie and just watching the show I got a little confused (but that’s our classic dead-pan humour for ya). Cringe worthy stuff, Monckton really had no idea he was getting the piss taken out of him.

Well said Finton Stack! We Aussies aren’t racist, ignorant “bogans” as a general rule, and those that are we try to keep out of the world’s view. Sadly some of them figure out how to turn on a computer and use the internet, or worse, travel abroad and tarnish our fun-loving but respectful reputation.
