The currently-in-cinemas Thing prequel received a lukewarm reception from critics, including our own Lisa Schwarzbaum. But how would the characters from John Carpenter’s 1982 movie react to being shown this new franchise entry?

That question has been answered in the NSFW fan clip below which finds Mac, Palmer, Blair, and the rest watching the adventures of Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s scientist and those crazy Swedes. Sorry, Norwegians.

Check it out and tell us what you think.

Yeah, the premise is funny. But the execution is not.

No, it’s okay, just nowhere near in the league of the Carpenter film. It has its moments (especially the end, which connects it nicely with the beginning of Carpenter’s), but they made a big mistake using mainly CGI to create the Thing. It’s very disappointing compared to what the Carpenter flick achieved.

The new Thing movie is not that bad… it’s kind of gross, but not that bad. The ending was a little cheezy and predictable, but otherwise, it was entertaining. Lots of good “gotcha” moments with things jumping out at you…

You know, I hear the “dunn-dunn” of the Thing theme now, like at the end of the video, and I expect the Dropkick Murphys to launch into Shipping Up to Boston.
